I had code po299 come up . I cleaned the EGR , but it didn't clear the code. I had the same problem when I started on this trip and put cleaner in the tank. It cleared the code, until I started pulling my trailer and than the code came up again. From the time I cleared til the time it came back it was 4 months.

Sounds like you have some EGR ports clogged up, remove the intake and look at the egr ports all but
#1 cyl port will probably be at least partially clogged, hope this helps

unplug the engine coolant temp sensor. 1 for the ecm, not the gauge. It may be way off and causing engine to run very rich, thinking it's cold all the time. At highway speed, you're using enough to get by. If not the answer, uplug MAP sensor and try that. It could think you're in outer space or way below see level. It's black rectangle with vac hose going to it. boo switch and o/d cancel switch errors were likely you not actuating them during koeo test. Others could have been cause by other previous.

SOURCE: engine light on 2002 Explorer. engine code P1400

This may have to do with a bad wiring. Check all the wiring associated with EGR operation. Whenever a computer throws a code about high or low circuit voltage, it is usually attributed to abnormal wiring.

EGR Flow problems

I am assuming that you vehicle is equipped with a 3.1L V-6 since you didn't mention it. (If this is not correct, please post a comment and let me know.)

You most likely have clogged-up EGR ports.
You will need an EGR-to-manifold gasket, a throttle-body base gasket, a wire coat hanger and a spray can of carb and choke cleaner.
EGR Valve gasket: FEL PRO part number 70804 - $5.99 at AutoZone
Throttle Body Base Gasket FEL PRO part number 61053 - $1.49

Remove the EGR valve and the throttle body. Cut the wire coat hanger so you have a piece about 8" long. Use the piece of wire to scrape and pick through the carbon buil-up in the port that goes between the EGR valve and the intake manifold. You can work from both ends by going at an angle through the hole in the manifold where the throttle body mounts and from the other side where the EGR valve mounts. Once you have broken through all the carbon, clean out as much as you can with the piece of wire.

NOTE: Try to not allow this stuff to go into the intake manifold area - engine valve damage can occur if this stuff gets stuck in a valve. It may be a good idea to stuff a rag in the intake just beyond the work area to catch the debris. - DON"T FORGET TO TAKE THE RAG BACK OUT BEFORE YOU RE-INSTALL THE THROTTLE BODY!

After most of the carbon is removed, spray the carb cleaner through the port to finish cleaning it out. After you are satisfied that it is as clean as it is going to get, reassemble the EGR and throttle body. Clear your fault codes and retest the vehicle.

This should do the trick.

How do I clean the EGR PIPE in this 1996 Trooper? I have a P0401 code, have replaced the EGR valve, put a cleaner thru the system via the air intake, put a cleaner in the gas and still the P0401 code. I...

It should just unbolt. The problem is those tend to get frozen to the exhaust manifold, especially the higher mileage ones. Once you get it of, let it set in carb cleaner for awhile. If you have a flexable wire gun stock type brush, this will help aid you in this. You might even try a local machine shop for the carb solvent if you do not have any.

My 1997 gmc sonoma truck,it has a V6,4.3 liter V-Tec failed the MIL/Check Engine Light Test due to a Warning Lamp Failure. Due to a OBD Fault Code:P1406 manufacturer specific code

This code indicates a problem with the EGR valve's pintle position. The EGR Valve's pintle could just be stuck in which case the problem could be fixed by cleaning the EGR valve.

If the EGR valve is electronically controlled or cleaning the valve does not fix the problem, you will most likely have to replace the EGR Valve. i hope this helps

Have a code p0401 how do u fix it , I know it has something to do with the egr system but I,m not sure where its located on my trooper, engine size is 3.5 v6

I have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper that had a PO401 code that would reset and then 2 miles later the light was on again - I found if you remove the EGR valve and start the engine that the engine should idle rough - If it doesnt and you have vacumn at the intake port spray carb cleaner down the port slowly and see how long it takes for the engine to run rough - Keep spraying till the engine dies and spray some more down the passage and let the engine set for 5 minutes and then restart the engine - it will run rough at first but clear out - you should be able to feel the engine RPM change when you put your finger over the intake vaccumn port for the egr - If not then repeat the cleaning method again - If you do feel the rpm change then put the egr valve back on and clear the code and run your drive cycle to see if it is fixed.

Hey chevy s/10 2.2 code po405 egr any fixs

You have two options to fix this error code. One, obviously, you can replace the EGR valve. If you do this, just reset the codes and you should be good to go. Two, you can remove the EGR valve and clean the carbon build up out of it. You can do this with throttle body cleaner and just make sure to let it dry out before you put it back on. You need to make sure that the valve (diaphram) is moving freely after you clean it. If it isn't, you are going to need to replace the EGR valve. Let me know if you have any further questions. 2000Gran cherokee engine lite 1494 cod leak detection pump pressure switch or mechaical fault location of presure switch

The quick fix is to clean and reconnect all the electrical connector to the engine.

Pay close attention to the EGR lift sensor and the purge valve connector on the driver side fender.

I recommend CRC Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner (at major auto part store) or electrical parts cleaner (at Radio Shack).

After the cleaning then clear the code.

Fill up a full tank of Chevron to clean out the injectors.

====

If the same code returns then you will spend time on the EGR valve.

Carbon will built up over time and it will block the movement of the EGR valve and the EGR air passage.

Order a EGR base gasket before you start the job.

The easy route is to order a new EGR valve, but it can be clean if you have time. The air tube is a tough on. A vacuum clean can help to speed up the process.

After you put the valve and sensor then do a code reset.

This should fix you P1494 code problem.

EGR question on 1995 maxima 3.0l v-6

you don't have to pull off the intake manifold. take the egr off and clean the port is all. then the code has to be cleared.the egr is on the right side of intake(closest to the firewall. you can use a small wire brush or old toothbrush to do this. also check the wires and plug and if you egr valve has a vaccum line make sure it's not plugged loose or missing. use a lil bit of carb cleaner to clean port. replace egr and clear the code a scan tool will clear this code. please rate this thanks
