Gas as in gasoline or gas as in LPG gas? If its petrol, the fuel sender may be out of adjustment. (Usually means a new sender) If its LPG, the fuel stations are set to automatically shut off at 80% full. The gas tank will never actually be full to the brim but the gauge should be showing full if the gas nozzle keeps shutting off. Have a look on the LPG tank itself, they have a little gauge on them which shows how full it is. I have 2 tanks on my car , when "full" or when the pump shuts down, the tank gauges show just under full but the gauge on the cars dash shows full (2005 BA Ford)
My work truck does this as well. Pulling out the nozzle doesnt work either. I know it sounds wierd, but try turning the nozzle sideways or upside down when filling the tank. Works well with my work truck.....
check that the air hose from the tank to the top of the filler pipe is not squashed or crimped by something like a zip tie. This hose allows the air in the tank that is being displaced by incoming fuel to vent at the top of the filler tube and not past the filler nozzle thereby switching it off.
Usually a sign of a blockage in the vent pipe inside the filler tube, or the vent for the gas tank. Air pressure inside the tank has to be equalized as the fuel is added.
Chrysler and Dodge have a fuel vapor filter that allows air out of the gas tank but filters the harmful fumes. Usually the problem happens from topping off your gas after the gas pump stops due to the automatic shut off and then putting more gas in the tank (to make the bill an even $50. or to the next $5 increment, or pumping more in just because it fits). Anyway the filter gets saturated with gas, is not able to breath, and causes a vacuum in the tank. Because of this, the anti-siphon ball is not able to float around and sits at the opening of the fuel fill tube and won't allow any more gas to be put in (acts like the car is full). If you pump super duper slow like put a nickel to hold the gas pump handle, it will trickle in without a problem, but it takes forever! Solution, get the filter replaced and don't over fill the tank.
The fix, unfortunately, is inside the fuel tank. You have to have the unit replaced. It's pretty maddening that something like that wouldn't even last 5 years. I have a 63 chev 1/2 ton that the gauge still works, and to my knowledge has never been touched.
WOO stop there is a major recall with the 05 durangos the check valves get stuck they are recalling the gas tanks on thousands of those car. that is a big fire hazard. Go to the dealer I garente ur vehcle is recalled u may have not gotten the notice in the mail yet. Please rate if this helps.

NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built from October 13, 2004
through November 30, 2004 (MDH101300 through 113023).
The fuel tank inlet check valve on about 18,900 of the above vehicles may stick in
the open position. This can cause fuel to spill out of the filler tube when the
vehicle is being refueled. Fuel in the presence of an ignition source can result in a
fire.
The fuel tank inlet check valve must be tested for proper operation. Vehicles with
a sticking check valve must have the fuel tank replaced.
