My windshield wipers quit. They gave no indication of going. On morning I turned them on to wipe the fresh snow away. They started, went about 1/3 of windshield and quit. They went back down and I can't get them to move again. I can move them about 3-5 inches by hand. The washer fluid still works. ??????????

The wiper linkage is either broken, or has become un-attached...You will need to remove the wiper arms and plastic shroud above the linkage to inspect...When re-assembling be sure to have the wipers turned off, and in the down position...when mounting the arms back onto the spindles...Hope this helps.

You will need to find where in the linkage the problem is. I would start taking it apart to see what is and what isn't working correctly. Autozone website has free repair manuals available online.

Windshield wipers stopped working with heavy snow cover

The windshield wiper circuit has an circuit breaker in it, under heavy load this breaker trips to protect the wiper motor, when the motor cools, the breaker resets automatically restoring proper wiper action.

I heard a pop noise after trying to use them after some snow fall and the windshield whippers dont work anymore

your wipers were probably frozen to the windshield, and when you turned them on the gear snapped. future reference, if you know its going to be snowing or dropping below freezing, put your wipers up away from the windshield and you wont have this issue.

One side of my wipers is not in sync or is moving faster and moving to far over into the driver side wiper messing it up should i replace the motor

jhigh09, It does not sound like your wiper moyor is the problem. your passenger side wiper arm or stud might be stripped . To remove the arm, there is a spring clip where the arm is attached to the stud, With a small screwdriver pry the clip away from the stud and inspect the wiper arm and the stud. They have very small splines on them. If one or both are stripped, Replace them. To avoid this problem in the future, make sure you clear your windshield of snow /ice . that is commonly the cause of this type of failure. Also, Make sure you turn the wipers off when you park your truck. When you start up in the morning you will forget there on, i have and your wipers frozen with ice and snow will try to break loose and some damage. Hope i was of some help.

Windshield Wiper System The windshield wiper system consists of :
  • Windshield wiper motor (17508) (F-type).
  • Washer system.
  • Windshield wiper control module.
  • Turn signal and windshield wiper switch (13K359).
The windshield wiper control module is:
  • Located at the instrument panel fuse panel.
The windshield wiper motor is:
  • Attached to the cowl top extension (021A36) .
  • Connected to windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft (17566) .
The turn signal and windshield wiper switch features a:
  • Rotary wiper switch.
  • Push type washer actuator.
OFF/Low/High Speed
  • Has a two-speed, permanent magnet, three brush electric windshield wiper motor .
  • The windshield wiper motor has a brush rigging that permits selection of low or high speed.
  • When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is in the LO position, the common brush and the blue/orange wire brush are used, and the windshield wiper motor operates at low speed.
  • When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is in the HI position, the common brush and the white wire brush are used.
  • In HI position, electric current will bypass a portion of the armature winding causing the windshield wiper motor to operate faster.
  • When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is moved to the OFF position, the windshield wiper motor will continue at low speed until the park switch outer contacts open.
  • When the park switch contacts open, the windshield wiper motor stops in the park position.
Interval
When the turn signal and windshield wiper switch is in the interval position:
  • The wipers make single wipes separated by pauses.
  • The rotary switch is on the end of turn signal and windshield wiper switch .
  • The length of the pause can be set from approximately 1 to 17 seconds.
  • Length of pause decreases as the rotary switch is rotated away from off.
  • Length of pause increases as the rotary switch is rotated toward off.
While in the interval wiper mode:
  • It is normal to hear a slight click at the beginning of each on/pause cycle. NOTE: When using interval wipers, the first wipe may not occur until after a pause of up to 17 seconds.

Windshield wipers not parking

The problem could be a bent parking pall bracket. This is usually caused when you wipe snow from windshield using the wipers instead of brushing off. You need to remove both wipers and the cover from the drivers side. Remove the cover over the wiper motor assembly (held by a plastic button). On the right side of the wiper mechanism is a small tab (part of the wiper bracket). This tab needs to be straight for the wiper park pall to rest against.Carefully hammer this tab straight (or you may have to replace bracket, big job) Then cycle the wiper and you will see the assembly return to park position. Re-install all parts in reverse order.
Hope this works for you.
