JETTA 3 2.0 CLI 1993. My car just cuts out while i'm driving sometimes it comes to a complete stand still and starts again after a few seconds most of the time it cuts out then go as i'm driving not like it's smothered without fuel but like there's no electricity.Did comp diagnostic test and they had me replace throttle body switch/sensor and coolant temperature switch/sensor and no results.I can drive for a week or even a month at times with no problems then all of a sudden the car does it constantly and then it will just go away and re-occur.

Check your engine grounds (bundles of brown wires usually attached at firewall and other points around engine compartment) if these are corroded you will get same symptoms. Make notes when it occurs - IE: when wet out, damp, cold etc... My suspicions are grounds are corroded.

This is a problem that is often caused by a faulty crank position sensor. It is surprising that it doesn't show any error code (even an inactive one). A faulty crank position sensor will give exactly the symptoms you describe.

Had the same problem. Cut out if the outside temperature is above 30C. Replaced the fuel pump relay. R120. Problem gone.

Slow starting and after you drive about 15 miles it cuts back as if its going to cut completely off. If you pull over for a few seconds and then start again it will stop and then start again about 10 miles

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Regarding the slow starting, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged for it may be weak. Regarding the cut of when driving, there must be a problem on the coil pack. It may have electric current irregularities which may cause the vehicle to cut off. I suggest that you replace the coil pack as a first course of action.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Fuel box licking

vent valve or vapor canister purge valve is what I believe your referring too. You dont need to replace the complete vapor canister, just the valve itself. the valve is connected to the canister with a small 2" long rubber hose.
