If the oil consumption is no more than 1 quart every 1000 miles it is considered normal. if not you need the engine leak down tested and valve seals evaluated for wear as well as the valve guides. Also make sure the PCV system is working correctly.
Most pcv valves are stuck in the rocker cover, with a hose attached to it. There isn't much to them, a rattling ball valve, about 2 inches long, 1/2 wide.
I'm not sure exactly where it is but they are always on one of the valve covers. it is shaped like an "L" and will have one vacuum hose connected to it and it inserts into a rubber grommet on the valve cover.
The pcv is on the drivers side valve cover. It's an orifice type system and only needs to be checked for blockage which usually don't happen. If you can see through it don't replace it.
PCV (positive crankcase ventilation)valves are almost always located on the valve cover. I can not tell you positively where it is on this truck. It may be in the line that goes back into the intake cowling.
