I wrote an answer to this once,I thought. How many miles/years on your old transmission oil and filter? There might be dirt in the valve body or servo.
If it were mine, I'd put the correct amount of SEA-FOAM TRANSMISSION Treatment into it,follow the directions, and then do a flush and fill with new filter of my transmission.
When you rev it will it kick into reverse? don-ohio (:^)

Yes it does kick into reverse when I rev high enough but it’s not going anywhere. If I rev really high it jerks back like it wants to but stop like if I’m hitting the brakes. Drive works barely it kicks hard into gear and works. It’s just reverse that doesn’t work and neutral is not moving it’s like if it was in park. 2001 Ford f150 4.6L

i know that this is really a silly problem , but i am sorry to tell you that you better to get another transmission automatic gear box , because the repairing will cost you a lot , but if you found that it will not cost that much so it's ok to repair it , and if you have any other problem all you should do is asking me , and thank you for using fixya ,

SOURCE: 1991 Caprice No reverse. Moves in neutral. All forward gears OK.

What engine? Rear wheel drive ?Sounds like shift linkage or cable out of adjustment slightly. Have a look at where cable or rod attaches to transmission for adjustment. If not sure of what your looking for get back to me with info.

SOURCE: My Mazda 626 Wont go into Drive

Sounds like you have lost the transmission. There are bands that clamp down to lock the transmission into the gear you want. They are controlled by a hydrolic unit located in the trans. The first thing I would do is have a shop pull the trans oil pan and see if it is full of chips of metal. If so you definately have a problem. At the same time they can look at the bands and see if one of them is broken. another cause would be that metal has gotten into the hydrolic valve body and frozen the drive band portion so it will not function. You may also get lucky and have it be an internal adjustment of the drive band. Good Luck, RAC

I have a 2001 f150 and the problem is that my park works, when i put it in reverse it act as if its and neutral works right and drive 1,2 work fine what could be wrong?

If you have all the forward gears and it does not pull in neutral then the reverse band is broken or the molded rubber piston that applies the band is bad.Good luck.

Engine works, but my car won't move when I give it gas.

Could be your clutch or the cable from the shifter has a plastic piece that is easily broken that wont allow proper gear placement

My 93 ford flareside wont shift to park or reverse

if it won't engage reverse the trans will need to be overhauled, the rev clutch has failed inside the trans.

It sounds like your tranny is nearing the end of its life.Have you ever had it flushed? If it has high miles on it i wouldnt do it.The fact that it wont go into reverse sounds like it is time to replace/rebuild the unit.

Reverse acts as neutral. (auto tranny)

It is hard to say, but as long as all of the forward gears work fine, then it might work for a long time. But without knowing what is wrong, I would at least change the fluid to remove as much metal or clutch material as you can. Don't worry about the filter, you can't change it without disassembling the trans. Just drain the fluid and refill it. This won't fix reverse, but it might prolong further problems. And don't park where you can't pull straight out.
