On an 81 through 87 chevy truck. my question is the only difference between the short wide truck and the long bed the lenght of the bed? i have a long bed and what to take the bed off and put a short bed on it. would this work?

Vapor lock only happens when the vehicle is hot. Flooding at start up, you smell gas. If it is over fueling threw the carb/throttle, then you will see lots of black smoke out of the tail pipe when running.

no it will not work as these are 2 different style bodies.the 83 has the tanks on the outside of the frame and no fuel pump in tank.the 93 tank is located inside the frame rails and has a electric pump in the tank.

that will tell you if all the truck is of one body or if the bed doesn't match the cab for example if wrecked they may have had to replace bed of truck so that would have a different vin #

You can use Fiberglass, you can use Plastic, You can use Sheet Metal. There is a product called FUSOR 142 that is great for this type of repair, you can also PLASTIC WELD to do the repair...

The fuel pump is elelctic and it is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to service the fuel pump.

Short bed models have 26 gallon capacity and long bed models have 34 gallon capacity.

only if the 93 trans has a tv cable like your 91 does and asuming they are both the same style of trucks long bed etc. or short bed. by tv cable what i me is a trans valve cable shorta like a kickdown cable on your older chevy trucks. if it is an electronic shift transmission and yours isn't its not worth the trouble hope this helps.

You can lift the bed off, but you'll have to disconnect tailights filler neck, etc anyway, ,so why wouldn't you drop the tank.
