Check out the "Instrument Cluster Light Bulbs" section below:

2002 Volkswagen Passat - Repair Manual - Chassis Electrical (excerpt)

Dome/Map/Cargo Light

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the bulb from its retaining clip contacts. If the bulb has tapered ends, gently depress the spring clip/metal contact and disengage the light bulb, then pull it free of the two metal contacts.

To install:
  1. Before installing the light bulb into the metal contacts, ensure that all electrical conducting surfaces are free of corrosion or dirt.
  2. Insert the bulb into the holder. If the contacts have small holes, be sure that the tapered ends of the bulb are situated in them.
  3. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct as necessary.
  4. Install the cover until its retaining tabs are properly engaged.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Instrument Cluster Light Bulbs
The instrument clusters installed on these models are one of 2 types and distinguished by the instrument lighting color, either green or blue.
On models with green instrumentation, only the control light bulbs are replaceable. Should any other failure occur, the instrument cluster must be replaced.
On models with blue instrumentation, none of the components are replaceable. Should a failure occur, the instrument cluster must be replaced.

Map Lights
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the bulb from its electrical connector.
  3. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Only front left signal flashes when hazard lights or on, does get a dash indication light but only the left one; turn signal lights work but sometimes stays on solid (doesnt blink) on the dash. is this a...

I would check each bulb on the side with the most issue, usually when one light goes out,for whatever reason, the system is designed to malfuntion signalling an alert to the operator..with the lights and hazards on, check each fixture for good operation while opening up each light take the bulbs out and inspect them for defects, replace with new if anything is doubtful be careful with the bulb grease dont get any on the contact points because it will get hot and cause small issues.. do each light at a time until all 4 are working fix any defects to include burnt fixtures and broken wires and make sure all grounds are good also, these connectors are notorious for rust and corrosion so clean them well before reinstalling , I use the same bulbs in my 92 dodge so i am aware of the type..good luck..

The left side of air con controls dose not light up 98 impreza

hi there are small bulbs behind the display, similar problems happen sometimes with the dash lights too, can be fixed fairly easy just by removing unit and replacing bulbs brought from the local auto dealer or parts shop

My back lights will not turn on same as my dash lights. I have checked the fuses not sure if all were checked.

You should check the wires for the back lights if everything is good then try changing the bulbs. As for the dash lights i have a 98 sephia and there is a scrolling light switch on the left side near the vent and i thought i had a problem too but it was just the brightness for the dash lights was all the way down.

How to replace the MIL bulb on 99 catera

Make sure its the bulb by connecting a scanner. If you have a 650 code (don't remember the group (P I think), the MIL circuit is faulty.

To remove the cluster, you need to remove the centre and left side air vents. There are screws behind the vents. the left side dash panel cover gets you access to another screw. The cluster unplugs and you pull it out (tilt the wheel down).

At least, this is the way it's done on my 01'

Brake light, reverse light and turn signal issues

Hello. The symptoms you are describing are likely due to a poor ground. Temporarily install a new ground wire by securing a piece of copper wire to the frame with a self tapping screw. Use this ground wire along with the hot wire to see if each of these lights works. If it does, trace the ground wire back to the frame, unscrew it and clean up the metal with emery cloth so you reestablish a good ground.

My blinkers don't work. where is the fuse? or whatever make it blink!!!

Look on the side of the dash when you first open your driver side door, or under the steering column. Unlikely, but some models actually have the fuse panel in the glove box.
Definatley check the fuses, but dont forget to change out the actual bulbs. be sure replace them with the same # that is printed on the bulb.

Need to replace dash board backlights - 2004 hyundai elantra

trying to do the same on my 01. ready to change the bulb but can't find it anywhere.
anyhow, here's how you do it:

remove the dash by taking out 2 screws behind the ashtray and 2 above the instrument cluster
begin prying off the dash from the ashtray up, when you reach the heater vents stop. next take a flat head screwdriver and pry off the dash from the left side with the door open. work left to right till you reach the heater vents and it'll come right off. you don't necessarily have to unplug any of the electric connectors if you don't want to, but you;ll have to reach around the dash while working. all you need to do now is remove the heater control unit via the 4 screws around it, then unplug the electric harnesses from the back of it. make sure you remember which goes where. the bulbs are the 3 white (or is it 2 white and 1 grey) circles on the back of the control unit. just turn them with a flathead screwdriver and turn it over and give it a little bump to get 'em to fall out (or grab 'em with a needle nose pliers if necessary). anyhow, that's how it's done, question is, where do ya find the bulbs?

BMW L7 Dashboard And Air Doors

The dash will have to come out for the A/C prob to check the stepper motors and wiring. There are about 6 motors back controling different flaps to control direction of airflow. Once you get the dash out, turn on the car and start working the climate control to see what motors and flap are doing what. Once you see what's happening or not happening, you will know what to do then. about 4 to 5 hrs to take out dash fix prob reinstall dash.
The dash does not have to come for bulbs. For the cluster, you may have to drop the wheel if it does not adjust down far enough to remove the cluster. Drop the lower dash under the wheel, one of the bolts is left hand thread to hold the wheel up, two wery small screw hold the cluster, it slides out. One hour at most; two if no experience doing it.
