Code p0460 is a fuel level sending unit problem. It will not make you fail an emisions test. The fuel sender is the problem. Your guage is irratic at times. you need a fuel sender replaced in tank.

The P0460 code is set from a fuel circuit malfunction. This can be set by something as simple as the type of fuel you are using, if the sulfur content is too high, or if you refueled with the key on? Have the light reset and refill your tank with Chevron fuel,( Ford was recommending this at one time.), then drive the vehicle for two drive cycles and retest if no light is on. Two drive cycles are two complete warm ups with a six hour cool down between them. You need to reset the onboard monitors and drive cycles are the only way to do it. If the light comes back on and the code is the same, you will need a Ford dealer or a repair facility that is up on it's electrical testing. Hope this helps.

P0460 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction.
The fuel level sensor is in the gas tank. Get a Haynes or Chilton Manual to see how to access the tank. You might get lucky and there will be access under the back seat. Otherwise, the gas tank has to come out to get access. The tank and fuel pump are an integrated assembly.

I have a P0460 code and (thinking the same) I dropped the tank and replaced the sender unit (making fuel tanks for Ford made me know enough to be dangerous).
The same code (P0460) is coming up. Any suggestions?
Did you fixed the problem? I have the same code P0460. I don't want to change fuel pump unless i am 100% sure. Iif you soleved the problem, can you please tell me what you did?
