Check for vacume leak including intake. Spray some carb cleaner around intake and vacume hoses and listen for engine rpm to change.

Why does my jeep turn off if I don't toggle the overdrive switch enough?

it stalls with foot in the throttle...... really.? try to say what you and car are doing at the od switch flips.. sure moving fast.
but doing what, up hill down, flat, acceleration, decel, or coasting?

ok, this can be real easy.
engine tuned up is 99%
ever heard of scan tool.
connect it, and log data (or person 2 watches) and log DTC and streaming data?
if the Magic relay called ASD drops the the engine stalls (this is its purpose) and if it did the SCAN TOOL tells you why it did.
every time...
asd class 101.:

is transmission stuck in 3rd gear, limphome.??
the trans mission will not stall a car. 99%
that is because the clutch has a stall speed.
and slips greatly at idle, say 800rpm is hot idle , so if say the trans solid locked into top gear. and you came NEAR a stop sign, coasting... and braking.. say.....
and as rpm dropped, the clutch will slip and no trans ever stalls the engine.99% unless the engine is super weak and misfiring hard.
or ASD DROPs !
that is why we scan to see ALL ERRORS> engine and trans.
see?

I have a 1989 Honda Accord LX automatic trans. When you start the car the rpm go up to 3000, generally once the car heats up you can tap the accelerator and the rpms will come down, but this is not working...

the idle surges if this is the case take out the air intake tube that leads to the throttle body, get a can of carburetor fluid and spray around the throttle body. You will need someone to start the car and hold the gas peddle to 2500 rpm while you do this the car will shut of when you do this, restart the car and repeat the process until half of the can is used up. Now check your antifreeze level fill if needed.

56k just about due for 60,000 mile srvice. When you take it in have the problem reviewed. Good uck.New trans fluid might do the trick. Good Luck, Ned

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

89 Accord LXI Idle problems

It's fuel infected and it has a vacuum leak, most likely a PCV valve that is stuck open, I've seen a few now. Replace the PCV valve 1st, if that doesn't fix it, start looking for a hose that has come off.

1996 honda accord LX auto trans problem

yes..sir you must take your car to the nearst Honda Service Station and ask to the mechanic there to check the transmission and replace the clutch with new one. don't forget to check and maybe change all oil that have connected with your transmission. all work maybe take 1 or 2 days depend on the part that you need to change
