MY 1998 RAM 2500 (5.9 DIESEL) ENGINE RPM FLUCTUATES AT 45 MPH TO 55 MPH WHEN IN OVERDRIVE, LIKE IT IS SHIFTING FROM OVERDRIVE TO DRIVE AND THEN BACK TO OVERDRIVE. IT ALSO FLUCTUATES WITH O/D OFF AROUND 35 MPH. I HAVE REPLACED THE TPS WITH A NEW ONE ALREADY AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.

Mine is a 95, but the OD symptoms are exactly the same. I have been all through the harness, and have scanned it several times.

Mine's a 1999 diesel. The RPM fluctuates at 45 to almost 60 mph.

my 06 5.9 cummins runs at 1500 rpm @ 55 mph, sometimes 1300 rpm, sometimes as low as 1100 rpm, this is not consistant and I dont notice any unusual shifting or power loss

The problem is caused by electrical noise making the torque convertor go in and out of lock up. The dodge dealer has a computer flash for it. The fash only works about 30% of the time. This is a major problem to diag. Usually requires ground straps installed on pcm or pcm replacement could also be the altenator, wiring, or anything that runs to the pcm or tranny.

Engine missing mainly between 45 and 55 mph

I'm going to assume you have the 3.4 V6 engine which uses direct ignition with a coil on each plug.
Could be ignition or fuel related.
A weak spark/coil will allow the engine to run on all 6 cylinders at idle but miss under load, especially when going into overdrive at 45 mph. Not enough spark to jump the gap.
Same thing with low fuel pressure or dirty injectors. Not enough fuel when the engine is working hard.
Usually when you get a hard miss you will get a trouble code for the cylinder that is not giving power.
Have you changed the fuel filter in the past 12 months ?

Transmission- 2001 Dodge ram 2500 diesel 4X4

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram that doesn't like to shift into 2nd when flooring it from a Stop. Imagine if you were to floor the gas in neutral, the engine REDLINEs and the engine governor kicks in to keep the RPM from blowing the engine......while stuck in first Gear. If i let off the gas, it goes into 2nd fine. I have replaced the Speed Sensor on the transmission ($18) and it seemed to fix it for one day. After 200 miles, its doing it again. ANybody have legitimate answers in here? Its only got 60K miles..wtf?
