Hi there, my name is hardee from Brunei Darussalam. i own a bmw z3 auto transmission 1.6cc. I got it 2nd hand and unfortunately it didnt come with the Owners Manual. My problem is: 1. Is the engine is timing belt or timing chain? 2. I dont know where to top-up the wiping fluid. where is it? 3. There's an airbag warning at all time. Any diy just to reset it? 4. the seats leaning adjustment are broken maybe therefore i can adjust my leaning angle, what are the possible cause? what/where spare parts? i an feel the whole body of the car is vibrating and the vibration noise is really annoying. Thanks. Looking forward for the answers.

SOURCE: Does a 1993 BMW 318i have a timing belt or a timing chain?

Hi some of them have a belt but yours being the M43 engine is a chain, the only thing to listen for with them is chain slap or an rattling around the chain area, a bit of research on the M43 engine also shows that the chain should be changed after 100000 miles as they become weak, Just joined here and found this unsolved i know its a bit late but hope the extra info helps

SOURCE: turn airbag off for 5 series bmw

The airbags do not need to be and should not be turned off if the *child* is sitting front-facing. The danger to kids in the front seat is that a rear facing baby would be hammered into the back of the seat. A front facing child would be protected as an adult. So, before you hunt down further info ... is your kid still sitting rear facing? And is your forward facing child boosted up with an appropriately fitted lap/shoulder belt?

Airbags in and of themselves are dangerous to kids.

SOURCE: BMW 523 Auto gerbox when cold change from 1 to 2 gear is hard

hello there

The problem is with the gear oil. To keep ahead of the rest BMW started what they call life time oil for their gear boxes, though that sounds great it doesn't really work in reality, they have now gone back to recommending a gear oil change every 60k miles.

In short you need to change your gear oil and soon, the oil in your gear box is no longer effective and will damage the gear box. You'll need about 5 litres for your car and costs around £15 a litre, expensive stuff!! I had the same problem with my 328i auto, the dealer was clueless and kept quoting the lifetime oil, I changed the oil and the problem has gone and it's so much smoother.

Hope this helps, please don't forget to rate me.

1998 Z3.. Manual Trans shudder under acceleration in 2nd gear as it nears 2000 rpms, then goes away as it approaches 2500 rpm's.. Any suggestions?.. Thanks

It could either be the flex disc or drive shaft center bearing. I had the same problem on my 98 Z3 and I replaced both and it took care of the problem.

WHAT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID IS NEEDED FOR 2000 BMW Z3 6 CYLINDER

On the manual the fluid is "lifetime" BMW MTF LT-1, SOME models used ATF. There is a plate on the side of the transmission that will give what your particular model was filled with.

On the automatic the fluid type should be printed on the "type plate" on the side of the transmission

both are usually Dexronn III ATF, but please check your plate!!!
