BigLou my front end gets hot and then makes a terrible noise when i turn into a parking lot or drive long distance

  • steve_m123 Aug 02, 2008

I am having a similar issue with my 1994 Jeep grand Cherokee.

Every time I pull into a parking spot and turn hard left or right, the front wheels will shake and act like the front axle is locked in posi.

I am afraid that I will snap an axle.

    Any suggestions?

The heat is most commonly caused by sticking brake caliper or calilper slides being seized. The shake in the front end could be bad axel shaft bearings like u joints or it could be locked in 4 wheel drive.

The noise is caused by a worn out CV Joint at the wheel, very common on jeep or any 4X4

Steering knock on sharp turn after travelling long distance

it could be something simple or even dangerous. I would look at tire to see if it is wearing uneven, jack it up and see if wheel is tight on hub. Look at lug nuts and see if tight. No joy? Unless you know how and have proper tools for front end repair take to shop

Front end and steering wheel shakes

when slowing to make right turn is it more like a clicking noise, does it do it while turning or just when slowing down. If it is while you are turning it is most likely the right cv axle drive shaft popping. When at a stop with ac on does it shake if you put it in park and how do the rpms read in park or in drive. Did they change the trans mount also dont thank that is it just trying to get a better understanding so I can better assist you.

FRONT END

Drive the car in a parking lot and make left and right hand turns.
If the noise goes away on either turn then the problem is a front hub bearing.
If the noise is still there, it could be possible front differential bearings.

GRINDING IN FRONT END

This sounds like a major problem. I had the same issue with a different truck. I will tell you in all honesty that the front-end is blown. The noise will continue to get worse. Soon it will occur driving in a straight line. The carrier bearings are symptomatic of failure. Its safe to drive on for a while, but in the long run you can eventually snap the front end. But before you go on rebuilding or selling the vehicle drain the fluid and replace with new and see if the problem goes away after driving 8-15 times in a flat parking lot doing figure-eights.

Terrible Front End noise

Good Day,
It would make sense that it is suspension related as it does not make noise at idle but going down the road it does. I would lean towards it being a bad wheel bearing. Does it sound like it's coming from one side or the other? Also how many miles on the car? Does it get louder when the wheels are turning?

You can check the bearing easily by jacking up that wheel and moving it side to side and up down checking for play, a little bit of play is normal.

Hope this helps and Good Luck
