Hi! My friend and I have experienced similar problem with each of our Suzuki Grand Vitara 2000 (his) and 2002 (mine). He discovered (two years ago) that cooling the "camshaft rotary sensor" by pouring (normal) water (which I also did just last week) and it works to start & run the car until the next pull-over. You have to redo pouring water if you stop the endine and does not re-start. But this may be just an emergency solution wherein you have to let the car be serviced by a mechanic.
It's camshaft position sensor, located at the top-back side of the engine near the firewall. It's a black plastic bolted into its metal assembly which is bolted to the engine (Google it, you'll find the pictures)
To confirm, pour water on its metal housing so the sensor cools down and start the car, if it starts fine, replace just the sensor. Suzuki might ask you to buy whole assembly with the sensor, don't buy.. It's useless.
This sensor just loses its magnetic power over time hence can't work properly when heated up.
Cheers.
