If the intake is not properly put into place, oil can leak out of the ends. Use new gaskets, and silicone on the corners (2 front) (2 back). spray the gaskets with red tacky sealer, torque the intake, and make sure there is no cracks under the intake (on the bottom of it). Also if you machine too much off of the heads when you resurface them the intake may have to be machined as well. I hope this helps.
It sounds like you need to replace your oil and transmission pan gaskets. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
The engine is likely shot if your leaking at the front main seal that means the crankshaft is moveing up and down and side to side your putting oil in and it comes out when you are putting it in its a big problem unless there is a hole in the oil pan it self SORRY
I found the problem and 99 jimmy is running great now. the major problem was the intake manifold gaskets sucking air and causing random misfire codes(bad fuel/air ratio) but also we pulled the distributor as well because from 87-99 the drive gear was made of soft material and sure enough 3 teeth on the dist gear were almost worn right off. We also replaced this with 120$ new rebuilt unit. Intake gasket kit is approx 100$ and no more than 2 hrs labour and the distributer is real easy to pull and replace once the intakes are off so this is a good time to check dist with little extra labour.
it is never a good idea to guess take it to a mechanic or 4 get several different quotes if 3 are same the it is the likely problem and you know where you stand
That series of Jimmys and Blazers are known for front wheel bearings failing. If you start hearing a load rubbing or dry grinding have them checked and when you replace one do them both. With the oil problem, could it be transmission fluid? You might have a leaky transmission cooler line.
There is an adapter for the oil filter with 2 lines coming out of it above the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential. The O ring on these will go sometimes causing loss of oil. Also check the 2 lines for leaks and cracks.
Does it sound like a loud winding sound coming from the front right side? I have a 2001 Jimmy and the 4wd tries to engage when driving up steep hills and going at highway speeds. The actuator vacuum switch engaged when the transfer case vacuum switch sends the vacuumed air to the actuator. What is happening is their is either a leak in the vacuum lines, a faulty actuator switch, or a faulty transfer case vacuum switch. When the jimmy has enough air pulling in, the extra vacuum is trying to push the actuator switch in when it is not supposed to. It is a much cheaper fix than a transmission. GMC should have recalled the whole 4wd system on any of the S10's, the JImmy's, and Blazers.
