If the mass airflow sensor is unplugged the on board computer can't read the air flow to the fuel system, hence the dying. Their is a cheap remedy that may work, you can purchase a MAS sensor cleaner and after you pull the sensor simply spray it liberally and it may work again. If this doesn't help you will need to replace the MAS sensor for the vehicle to run correctly.

If the fine elements on the MAF sensor that measure the air flow are dirty then CRC makes the spray cleaner that can be found at most auto parts stores but if the elements are defective or broken the sensor will need replaced.

Engine runs rough at idle has a code 0101 and 0113 will stall when put in drive

0101 points to the mass air flow seonsor. 0113 points to the air temp sensor. Check your air intake for blockage, check the filter and make sure it is not overly clogged. IF all those are clear, I would replace the mass airflow sensor before the air temp sensor, as the air temp sensor does not have as much bearing on whether the engine runs well or not.

When I put my 2000 Ford Taurus into reverse or drive it shuts off. But if I drop it into low it drives.

Sigh. The most likely answer is the MAF Boot (Air Mass Sensor) has a crack in it, AND, your motor mounts are worn out. When you put it in gear, there is a significant torquing of the engine, and it tends to try and "move" or twist to get the tired turning, but until you drive that isnt happening so the transmission clutch or torque converter eatst he rotation and allows it to idle. All find and well, HOWEVER, if your motor mounts are bad, then the initial twisting force when it goes into gear causes the engine to move enough that a crack in the MAF sensor will open, causing a massive air leak that tells the computer the wrong amount of intake air, it then sends the wrong amount of gas...engine only runs on right air and fuel. Engine stalls.

When putting in 1st gear, the lower gear coupled with quicker takeoff can sometymes prevent the initial stall and as the engine untorques when it moves back, the crack closes and returns to normal (ish)..
There could also be some electronic answers...but as its very common and easy/cheap to check, Id start there,.

Mass aif flow sensor and fuel injection system cleaning

I have seen this happen when the ECM looses its ground. IT runs fine till you put it in gear and then the ECM takes over and the engine stalls because it is pulling ground THROUGH the sensors.

Engine stalls when putting into gear

Hi Glen, Check all the vacuum hoses and make sure there are no leakages of air into the intake manifold. Check the plastic ducting between the air flow sensor and throttle body. It is advisable to have a diagnostic scan carried out on the vehicle. Regards John

My 1994 nissan maxima is stalling when cold. It is sweet when it has been warmed up for a while and ok in park (auto) but when you go to put in gear or reverse it stalls. The trans is also slipping out...

You will ned to get the computer "scanned" to detect what appears to be two separate problems. If the stalling was the only fault I would have said it was either the throttle positon sensor faulty or the Air flow meter / sensor. However the two may be linked. ie faulty speed sensor.

Car jerks on freeway and engine shuts off.

It sounds like your Mass Air Flow Sensor is faulty. These sensors will normal show fault when cruising at highway speeds causing the vehicle to almost stall or stall. Replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor with a known good one and test drive the vehicle. This will most likely repair your concern.

1992 Olds Cuttlass Cierra stalling

Check your lockout sensor on your transmission by unpluging it and try driveing it with the sensor unpluged. It should be located on the side of the transmission between the transmission and the fan, under the air filter box.
