I had same problem with 99 Isuzu Rodeo LS 3.2 V6. Dealer couldn't find it and many, many other owners experienced same thing. finally found a post where a mechanic (non dealer) changed the idle air control valve. so i tried it, and after 3 years of dealing with the problem, it worked!!! part costs about $40 and very, very easy to change yourself. for the 99, its located in front of engine, so easy access. Good Luck

Lifters start to tick very loudy only after freeway driving but does not tick when I have a fresh oil change for at lease two to three weeks after freeway driving and the oil level is always at a safe

You cannot fix faulty lifters by changing the oil or using oil additives. The engine has to be repaired. If the lifters are ticking loudly bits of metal are being ground away and being circulated through your engine.

Using oil additives is a total waste of money and in fact is detrimentally affecting the lubrication job of the engine oil.

1993 iSUZU TROOPER HYDROLIC LIFTER NOISE GETTING LOUDER SHOULD I BRING IT IN FOR REPAIR? CAN THIS NOISE BE RELIEVED BY AN OIL ADDITIVE?

no what you do is to add a half litre of diesel to the oil and 3 good squirts of fairy liquid ,got to be fairy and no cheap one.then run vehicle around for a day or so and the noise will stop ,Then change oil and filter and from then on change oil every 5000miles and a oil filter every third oil change ,use a diesel/petrol oil the cheapest you can buy and the diesel /petrol oil will have detergent in it which will keep the inside of the engine clean and prevent clag from forming which is what is causing your hydraulic tappet stick thus making a noise .

Top of the engine is ticking. friend told me it could be a valve that is clogged or stuck open and thats its not a huge problem but it might be mixing gas and oil. to me that sounds like a problme....

It sounds like hydraulic lifter noise. The lifters open and shut the valves and can be helped by using a good synthetic oil and frequent oil changes. Lash is the clearance between the valves and lifters.

I did a compression test and it came nack great! well that is if i did the test rite! there is a ticking in my engine is it just the lifters? if so how soon do i need to fix it before a bigger problem...

If it's just lifter tick, just do regular oil changes w/ good quality oil (10w-30 or 10w-40). I wouldn't be too concerned unless noise gets louder.

1993 isuzu rodeo with 175,000 miles has ticking comming from valve covers. ticking comes and goes. oil pressure is good.

this is caused by worn hydraulic valve lifters. try a good "seafoam" engine flush the next time you get ready to change your oil. follow the instructions on the can and then use 10w 40 oil and an isuzu(or honda) oil filter. you should notice a dramatic change.

It make a ticking noise like an exhaust leak. the gasket is good any other suggestions

THERE'S AN EGR VALVE IN THE EXHAUST, BUT THAT WOULDN'T TICK. TRY ADDING ONE OF THOSE LIFTER QUIET CHEMICALS U CAN AT THE AUTO STORE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. IF THAT HELPS, THEN U KNOW IT'S THE LIFTERS. U CAN STILL DRIVE WITH THE TICKING LIFTERS FOR AWHILE, BUT SOONER OR LATER THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED. ALSO, INFREQUENT OIL CHANGES CAN CAUSE A TICKING LIFTER.

I had the valve cover gasket changed on my 1996

on a v6 ? Low on oil? rear cam plugs leaking? The lifters are on the end of the rocker arms and may get clogged. I have had some luck running 0w30 mobil synthetic for about a week or so with a new oil filter [Not a fram filter] and after that put 10w30 synthetic oil back in and a new filter. Check for oil leaking at other locations. If the noise is at the front of engine near water pump it may be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner.

My 1993 rodeo makes a loud ticking noise until it reaches 2000 rpm's . Then it just shuts off like a switch. My mom had one and hers done the same thing. It sometimes doesn't also rev the rpm's down when i...

That ticking your hearing is most likely a valve lifter or tappet that is dirty or failing. At low RPM the oil pressure is lower, as you increase the engine speed the oil pressure rises; with this the lifter sees more oil pressure too and it fills fully with oil thus the ticking stops. You may be able to fluch the oil system in hopes of cleaning out any debris; my gut says the lifter is beginning to fail and should be replaced. If you have the ability and tools this is something you can do in your garage; pick up a manual and review the procedure before tearing into the engine.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Engine knocks 3.2 isuzu rodeo 2000 ? help

You don't say how many miles or give a service history, but, that said I would check the timing belt and tensioner. When tensioner goes bad is often is reported as a loud knock or tick. Usually most evident at low RPMs. Another low cost try is to use a can of seafoam in the oil now, run it a few miles, then change it for a high detergent, low viscousity oil and drive it a while to see if the lifters clean up. engine tick is very common, generally due to lifters oil passages getting sludged up a little for 2nd gen 3.2l's
