Own a 2000 GMC Jimmy. Had the thermostat changed out as it began over heating...severely. Went almost 2 months after new thermostat put on without any problems. In the last week began slightly overheating again. What are the possibilities and what should I have the mechanic look at?

Save yourself money. take to mechanic and say that is overheating. Do not suggest repair. You will have the preforming unnecessary work. In my home remodel business, whenever customers wanted to tell how to do it and micro manage it cost them extra for doing work that did not have to be done or not related to project.

I had problems with a similar truck,a 1998 GMC diesel after checking to make sure the control cables were operating the blend door and blowing the mess of the heater core,I replace the thermostats.Still no heat turns out there was a small amount of debris collecting in the fitting for the inlet hose at the thermostat housing after removing it and blowing out the lines the heat was fine.

Hi
The problem is most likely 90% head gaskets but could be intake manifold gasket leaking too. Intake gasket has to be checked when intake is removed. Might find problem there if not continue and remove heads. Bars Leak will not work.

Your transmission is electronic, it read's the the speed sensor from the yoke and relay's the information to the ECM which tell's the servos in the transmission acivate to change the gears up or down with the engine out put.

Hi, Carson. Have you check your radiator for blockage? Or the car's cylinderhead gasket has blown, which will put pressure in your water system which in turn overheats the engine.

Changed thermostat, now jimmy won't start???

if you unhooked your battery you should check your cables and make sure they're tight, it could just be a loose ground cable.
other possible problems are:
1. something wasn't plugged back in
2. coolant levels are low
3. or the worst possible scenario is that the timing belt broke which would cause the engine to over heat and depending on the year of the engine you've destroyed the top of the engine and it will all have to be replaced.

You have air in the system, you will need to work that out, some engine have cooling systen bleeders, if not loosen a heater hose to bleed air from the system.

My car is over heating. I flushed the radiator and I tryed to replace the water pump but I could not get to it.

Try changeing the thermostat.Follow the uper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine and it will lead you to the thermostat housing.Take note on how the thermostat is in the engine and put it bake the same way with the new one.

Had similar problem in my 2000 Jimmy. No hot air from heater. Had the shop (Midas) disconnect heater hoses at the fire wall and blow out the heater core with air hose. Got rust and junk blown out. Hooked up and flushed system with new anti freeze. Got lots of heat now.
