My A3 1999 CAR RADIO IS STUCK ON SAFE MODE. NOTHING HAPPENS IT JUST SAYS 'SAFE' I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO OBTAIN THE CAR SERIAL NUMBER OR CAR MANUAL BOOKLET TO UNLOCK IT. HOW CAN I FIND OUT THE 4 DIGIT CODE...

Radio must be pulled from dash and serial number noted. You'll need radio tools. These are two keys that insert in the side of the radio to unlatch the securing locks.

Available on eBay. Few dollar$

Possible if radio still original, dealer may give you code numbers. However, you may have to prove you are the owner.

Sometimes the radio code is written on a sticker in the trunk next to the spare wheel..

How Do I Get My Radio Out OF Safe Mode? Anyone?

Hi.

The radio goes in safe mode when the battery gets disconnected, or if for some reason the radio lost power connection.

To get the radio out of safe mode you will need the anti theft code.
This is available with car documentation, in first page of the in car entertainment booklet, or on first page of the car booklet (not the car manual).

Once you have got the code, do the following:

  1. Hold down both the AM/FM and the SCAN button at the same time, until the display shows "1000".
  2. Use the buttons 1,2,3,4 to change each of the digits until you get displayed the same code as printed on documentation (ensure that it is the right one).
  3. On some radio (programmable models), the default code is "1111" or "1234".
  4. Press and hold the AM/FM and SCAN buttons again until the radio is starting.
  5. If you fail twice the code, the radio will lock up in safe mode, and you won't be able to enter the code again.
  6. If the radio is locked, or if the code is lost, the unlock can be done at the nearest car dealer, usually for a small fee, or for free.

Landrover cassette display appear "SAFE" This cassette model is XQE500550.How can fix safe mode.

If you have the correct radio code for the unit, just wait about an hour with the power on in the radio. The screen will eventually display (code) or (enter code) follow the directions in your radio manual to enter the code and the radio will be operational again. The safe mode is on because either the radio fuse blew, the battery was too low on charge or the radio was momentarilly disconnected from it's power source. Most common is low battery voltage. Charge your vehicle battery, locate the radio code, wait till radio displays CODE and enter the code an have happy tunes again.

Entering radio code

Turn on radio - the word SAFE will appear in the display. Press th P.SCAN and RBDS buttons simultaneously and hold them down until "1000" lights up in the display.Release buttons.Do not, under no circumtances, continue holding them down or press them once again. This will cause the radio to consider the number 1000 to be the input code.Use station buttons 1,2,3,and 4 to enter the code number on your Radio Card. Use the button 1 to enter the first number 2 for the second number 3 for the third number and 4 for the last number.Once you have entered the code and it shows on the display, press the P.SCAN and RBDS buttons down again simultaneously and hold them down until the word SAFE appears in the display.Release buttons. 1998 AUDI QUATTRO BATTERY DIED. RADIO IS NOW IN SAFE MODE.

Unfortunately, if I am reading this problem properly, you have a Blaupunkt radio in your Audi. Disconnection from power source and reconnection without proper (un)locking code will result in the permanent disabling of said radio.

It's a common problem in factory Blaupunkt radios installed in Volvo's, BMW's Audi's, etc. A very effective anti-theft mechanism indeed!

Was in SAFE mode now screen is blank

bad ground or bad power source behind radio and radios sometimes has fuse to the back of radio
something might have surged the cars electrics

some vehicles come with 3 fuses for radios sometimes more
these fuses are listed as
fuse box
power wire fuse box this will be located on the power wire to radio
and then you have the radio fuse

some radios have what they call an antitheft shutdown if the code was not properly put in after so many times the radio completly shuts off or for a length of time it will also shut down the radio

recommendation take vehicle to dealer so they can show and reapply code for you to you then you would never forget how to do it
