Did you check the main electronic component, the ECU, to see if it's functioning as it should?

    Well, you probably fixed it or gave up by now, but I'm facing a similar problem. I initially thought it was just my fuel pump, but it turns out that these are the conditions:
    * Fuel pump not functioning
    * Ignition system not functioning
    * Fuel injectors not functioning
    * Check engine light *not* on
    To cut to the chase, I finally did the "free rental" of a diagnostic code reader from O'Riley's and the stupid thing had a diagnostic code, even though the light wasn't on. It said "crankshaft position sensor" and I began disassembling the timing belt covers to get to it and discovered my timing belt was coming apart. It had apparently either ripped out the wires from the crankshaft position sensor or it slipped, I haven't determined which one yet. Either way, you can pull off the cable going into one of the the ignition coils and stick a 12v light between two of the wires (I forget which) and when you turn the engine over, if the light doesn't blink, it's not getting power.

    One of the pins is always hot and one of them is pulled to ground by the powertrain control unit (PCU), which is located behind the glove box and AC/heater blower assembly, against the firewall. However, I suggest getting the code reader first to find out if it actually has a legit reason for cutting off your ignition. If the PCU goes bad, it's $950 from the dealer and between $100 and $200 from eBay.

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi galant. I replaced the fuel pump, spark plus and coil packs. It still won't start. Any ideas?

ignition controller (computer) - easy to check. hook up one or two of the old coils with old spark plugs. make sure plugs are touching metal on the motor (for grounding), have someone crank starter while you CAREFULLY observe plugs, you should see spark at plugs. if spart, i'd check for timing sensor problems, if no spark then problem is in ignition computer.

2002 galant will start up fine cold and run for 20 min, after hot soak will not start, back fires through intake

Yes your 4 cyl engine uses direct spark with a coil over each spark plug.
And the computer controls the firing of the plugs and injector pulse.
The problem could be the crank or cam sensor, or the wiring harness, but in most cases the check engine light should be on and a code set.
You might want to check the computer for codes, then try the cam sensor.

Got a 2001 Chevy blazer 4.3L cranks but does not start. got 62 psi at the fuel rail, replaced plugs and wires, got good spark at coil, replacing car and rotor! if the cam sensor or crank senor are bad...

Crank sensor is primarily for the spark and the cam sensor is for fuel management, crank/cam correlation for misfire purposes I would also change the wires.

My 2002 Mits Galant has a #2 cylinder misfire. I have replaced the spark plugs(#2 contact broke off, cylinder was inspected and no problems). I then repaced the coil pack and still nothing has changed.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable).

Otherwise, check the coils (coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Try it and keep us updated.

I have a 2002 optima with no spark. I do have 12 volts to the coil packs. Could the coil packs be bad? Or is there another problem somewere?

you need to check for "pulse" at the fuel injectors with a noid light. if there is pulse, then youre right, it would be the coil. it is more probable that it is the cam position sensor or crank postion sensor. the best way to tell is to have a scanner with "live data" so you can check the signal from both sensors. if they are working, it will recognize them. cheers.

You say you changed the cam sensor. A1391 code is a crank sensor on the top of the trans. bell housing.

I cant get spark out of the coil pack

cam sensor fires the injectors to synchronise injector pulsing with the spark at the spark plugs.. U need to probably change the crankshaft sensor (around the crank pulley) as the crank sensor is what controls the ignition spark.
hope that does it.
