Ticking noise

I just bought a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire, and now there is a ticking noise coming from under the hood. I do not belive it is an engine knock, because it is a light sound.. just not sure what it is... anyone have any suggestions?

Check your oil, may be low and check the radiator level...

2005 Pontiac sunbird has black gritty oil

sounds like possible lifter ticking due to lack of service. offer to pay for an oil change and drive the car for a couple of days to see if ticking noise quietens down. if it doesn't you may be looking at replacing the lifters.

Sounds like a rotating electrical device not connected to the drive belt, like a rad fan. Not sure if this engine has a vacuum pump, but that could also be what's making the noise.

My 2000 pontiac sunfire is making a ticking noise from the engine what is it

A ticking noise is normally caused by a lifter. Your car is 11 years old so more than likely is high mileage. There could be some carbon buildup in the lifter or it may just be worn. Purchase a can of Seafoam Motor Treatment at most auto parts stores and walmart. Pour 1.5 ounces of Seafoam for each quart of oil capacity in the crankcase 100 miles before you change your oil & filter. rive that 100 miles, and then change your oil and filter and add Seafoam to the freshly changed oil. Drive the car for 1,000 miles and change the oil & filter again. Repeat the process and then change your oil & filter at 5,000 miles. If you have a sticking liter this will solve the problem. If the lifter is still ticking then it is worn or severely gummed up with carbon. The ticking will do no real harm and is expensive to repair.

I had a ticking noise and i adjusted the rocker arm and most of it went away. Could this be the only problem? It is a 96 pontiac sunfire

if high milage motor seems fine leave it as is-not proper way to fix either have worn cam, rocker, or bad lifter. old chevy motors with car running was zero latch no ticking 3/4 to 1 turn to center lifter plunger

Pontiac sunfire valve noise

If it's a ticking noise that speeds up with the speed of the engine, it's a worn valve lifter.
You can try tightening it down by taking the valve cover off and tightening the bolt on the rocker arm, but don't tighten it too much, you will end up with other problems.

Ticking, sounds like lifters.

with engine running try using long screwdriver on valve cover & listen through handle to help pinpoint noise

Ticking under the hood.

I kind of had the same problem with my car, the dealer kept saying it was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that the ticking noise would fix itself electronically. Wrong, it was my valves needed adjustment and that ticking noise was never going to be fixed electronically.
