Keep checking the oil every time you gas up and you will be able to estimate how much oil it uses/100 miles or so. Then you can plan your trip. If the oil gets too low a warning will show up. That engine has about 7 quarts in the pan. As long as you don't run the engine low on oil the leak is just waste.

If your just replacing the head gasket, you don't have to remove the motor. Just remove the top part of the engine.

a drain pan, a hose release tool, flare nut wrenches and simple hand tools, such as a set of wrenches (sae and metric) and sockets with a variety of extensions. it would be helpful to have both 1/4" and 3/8 inch drive sockets and ratchet's

Most likely a cracked block or free plug that came out or loose. Other options are hozes, which I believe the dealer would have fixed. A third option is the water pump itself.

Yes this models tend to do that, check the coolant mixture after repair, yes is a diy proyect but you at least will have basic mechanic abilities to perform this, make sure you mark all the hoses and cables when dismantling.
