Don't bother. Replace the unit.
3.0 liter
The oil pump assembly used on this engine is mounted at the front of the crankshaft. The oil pump also retains the crankshaft front oil seal.

  1. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  2. Remove the timing belt cover and timing belt. Refer to the timing belt removal and installation procedures in this section.
  3. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
  4. Remove the oil pump mounting bolts (5), and remove oil pump assembly. Mark mounting bolts for proper installation during reassembly.

To install:
  1. Clean the oil pump and engine block gasket surfaces thoroughly.
  2. Position a new gasket on pump assembly and install on cylinder block. Make sure correct length bolts are in proper locations and tighten all bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  3. Install the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt. Recheck engine timing marks.
  4. Install the timing belt covers. For more details, refer to the timing belt cover installation procedures.
  5. Install the accessory drive belts.
  6. Refill the crankcase and start the engine.
  7. Check for correct engine oil pressure and for any oil leakage.
3.3 and 3.8 liter engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the dipstick.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Drain the oil and remove the oil pan.
  3. Remove the oil pickup.
  4. Remove the chain case cover.
  5. Disassemble the oil pump as required.

To install:
  1. Assemble the pump. Tighten the cover screws to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  2. Prime the oil pump by filling the rotor cavity with fresh oil and turning the rotors until oil comes out the pressure port. Repeat a few times until no air bubbles are present.
  3. Install the chain case cover.
  4. Clean out the oil pickup or replace as required. Replace the oil pickup O-ring and install the pickup to the pump.
  5. Install the oil pan.
  6. Install the dipstick. Fill the engine with the proper amount of oil.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and check the oil pressure. Check for any oil leaks.
for the 3.3 you can rebuild, 3.0 - replace.

I Have a renualt Modus 1.4 that had an oil leak and I have to rebuild my engine .how would I know if I need to change my oil pump?

if you are rebuilding the engine, it would be best to replace the oil pump. one you have the engine out and have easy access to the pump. It also could be the cause of why you are having to rebuild the engine. the oil pumps are usually not that expensive, but pulling a motor loose to replace an oil pump when you will such easy access to replace it.. just be in your best interest to replace as it is such a vital part of keeping your engine from failing!

Is there a way i can repair or clean my oil pump as opposed to buying one

I have never seen a rebuild kit for modern oil pumps and new ones are reasonably priced. If you are interested in cleaning an oil pump, it is time to pull the engine and rebuild the complete engine. If oil is changed regularly, you should never have to clean an oil pump. If you are having problems with the oil pump, you have probably damaged the bearings at a minimum and an engine rebuild would be highly recommended.

Burning 1 qt oil 2007 grand caravan sxt per 1000 miles. changed pcv vale still happenung

Is it really burning it, or just losing it? If you have blue smoke coming out your tail pipe, and oily black spark plugs, there's really not a whole lot you can do about it short of a rebuild of your engine. It really sounds like a rear main seal leak, or a faulty oil filter.

1999 dodge grand caravan was runing great park it then went out later to go somewhee it wont start making a funny pump sound on the passner side its is low on oil and what kink does it take

sometimes the gas gauge wont work right and show more gas than you have. my 94 caravan does the same thing. i suggest putting 5 gal of gas in the tank and see then if it starts. as for the oil... if you low and have been for a while just take it in for an oil change and ask them what they put in.

My check engine light comes on intermittently and when i stop the oil light comes on and dings I am told this could be an oil pump - how hard is this to fix on my vehicle - Dodge Grand Caravan 2000 3.8L V6

yes this is true it could be a oil pump but first check the oil level first. most oil pumps are inside the oil pan. and most pans can only be taking off by lifting motor up or the exagust off

Oil light came on when idling; oil changed; still happening occasionally. If I put it in park or neutral and rev it - the oil light goes out. Could it be the oil sending/pressure unit? Is there an easy way...

make sure are using a genuine dodge oil filter and correct grade of oil to check further you need to have the oil pressure checked using a master gauge a garage would do this for you if ok replace pressure switch if very low could be pump and bearing wear is the idle speed set too low i would check this
