I have an astra twin top, the roof is open but the boot wont lock down, its about 1/2 cm from closing. when I push it down it wont lock closed. any ideas thanks

So! I just happened to have the same problem with my Astra H Twintop, too! I opened the roof and as I started driving, I started hearing this annoying noice, signaling that the boot is open. Then also I could not open/ lift the trunk more than 5cm and it appeared to be stuck like that with the roof fully opened.

I opened the ski trunk between the back seats and as I started checking with a cam the inside of the trunk in order to locate the ECU unit in order to try and release the boot to open manually, I noticed that the trunk net (which needs to be pulled in order for the roof to be able to open) had closed itself! No idea how this had happened, as I had placed the net correctly in its seats at the back to the right and left. But still it had managed to release itself without anyones assistance, while the roof was opening.

With the help of a long umbrella (or you can use just about any stick, which is at least 60-70cm long) and a lot of patience I managed to extend the net back to its rightful location, so that it is fully stretched in the boot. I tried opening th boot manually first, which did not happen, but what a surprise - as I pressed the roof-closing button it took place naturally without any hassle and so the problem was solved.

Still Opel should had though of some mechanisms to keep the net securely locked, and not allow it to subtract, if it sits a bit loose in the two pockets. I hope this helps someone, now I can finally reward myself with a beer.

07 Convertible

This is easy, first locate the top button on the center console but do not push yet, next the lever on the front off the top, reach your right hand up and grab lever and pull down and twist counter clock wise to unlock it, you may feel roof pop up a little then with roof unlocked push handle back into its slot, next is push button and hold, the roof will start to open and the trunk will start to open and the roof will store away i the trunk,, make sure trunk is empty at first use, then with the top down and trunk closed you are done, open the trunk just to look inside to see where the top goes, this is to make sure nothing gets in the way of the roof, i cant remember if area is blocked off or not but this is a good idea just so you know.
To close the roof you hit and hold the button and roof will come out of the trunk area automaticlly the roof will end up closed all you do is pull lever down then pull on lever to close roof all the way untwist lever and it will go into lock, you will feel this, once it is in the lock groove you will twist lever to the right to lock it, with it locked you then push lever back into its slot. good day

I pushed the trunk release button without realizing the trunk hadn't shut yet while I was closing the convertible top. Now the "closing" light is still on and the car hasn't completed...

If you can open the trunk with the key, do so. Then disconnect the battery ground cable for about 15 seconds, and reconnect it. Maybe that will clear the ECM and allow the roof to close and reset the light. Then close the trunk.
Good luck...

E36 BMW convertible top operating it manually

Hey there, I have experienced the same problem. You need to reengage both motors if you have disengaged them pulling the lever undernearth the rear driverside seat. Make sure to put the black lever back under the seat to the position before pulling on it.

You should have the top in the down position before engaging the motors back in place.

To engage the motors: The motors are located under the carpet in the trunk on the driver side. There are two black clips you will need to remove in order to pull the carpet back. One of the motors is located near the taillight. This motor is responsible for the storage lid cover. The motor that is located further in the drunk is the motor for the fabric top to move up and down. Make sure to firmly press these motors back into place. They should not move.

Once you have engaged the motors, go into your car put the key into the ignition and have the convertible top button pressed up (meaning to close the top), move the key to the accessory positio and hold it for 10-12 seconds. You will finally see the trunk lid get pulled closed. The car will now attempt to completely close the lid. If your motors are working fine it will close. If your only intention is to get the lid to close on it's own it should be accomplished.

Good luck!

Convertible top will not retrack

Hi Stan

First of all the roof is not even soppose to operate while the trunk is open - So there is the first problem Ive been involved with BMW's for a long time and this is the first Ive heard of a roof opening while the trunk is open. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open.

The reason the roof is not working anymore as soon as there is stress on the roof the electric motors(One operates the roof and the other operates the roof lid)  disengages, You said that the roof still worked but the lid did not so probably only the one motor disengaged. So what you have to do is open the trunk on the left hand side right behind the tail light pull away the material and simply just push the electric motor into place. that should fix your problem.

It may happen that the two motors have become out of sync, Disengage both electric motors manualy put the roof away engage the motors and that should put the roof and lid back into sync.

Convertable roof and trunk won't open

The Roof Mechanism works with two motors similiar to the ones that wund the windows. Now the two mechanism are located in the left side of the trunk.

The trunk wont open Because of the roof lid that is not closed properly. How you can test this is to press down on the right sid of the roof lid and then try to opne the trunk.

Now the reason that this is happening is that the roof lid is not closing properly nad pressing on a small orange buttin located just below the right hand side roof lid catch. How you are going to remedy this problem is to adjust the cable tension to close more securely.

Now the two motors in the trunk that works the convertable roof can be engaged and disengaged on motor works the roof lid and the other one the roof.

You need to get these motors in sync so that they open and close the roof in the correct order.

That is if the electric are still working.

1997 BMW 328i convertible

The problem is that your roof(SOFT TOP) lid isnt closing properly. If you open the roof lid you see there is a button on one of the latches that tells the car that the roof is securely closed if your roof lid is not secure the trunk wont open. To test this press down on the roof lid and the try to open the trunk.
