Dealer is correct, it's a common problem on our platform. When you park your truck, leave the steering wheel in the straight position. Lights won't come on. Easier to live with it, just remember to keep your wheels straight when parking. Been doing it for years.
Try cleaning the connector for the sensor. Moisture could trip it
SOURCE: service vehicle soon light
hi,
olds aleros and pontiacs have qwerks like those, I had a 97 grand prix that was quite qwerky. We went through the mill to get the service light out, it was the spark plug wires, plugs and dirty injectors to get that light out, its the exhaust mixture sensor sensing an incomplete burn that turns that light on, may be others but that one for sure. probably have a sensor loose, dirty, busted or grounded at one of the wheels for the abs, fix that and the trac button will probably start working again. hang onto the olds if you can , it will be worth money someday.
good luck

SOURCE: code c1277 (steering angle sensor)
this vehicle uses a steering control module and the antilock control module. Both modules get a signal from the steering angle sensor. We found that the steering module didnot show a steering sensor code but the ABS module did show the code.
after checking that the wiring was intact and with good continuity, it was determined that the fault lies in the ABS module.
A new ABS module and configuration confirmed the diagnosis. It's fixed!

This is actually an easy swap out. Remove the electrical connection, remove the retaining bolt and pull out old one. I believe the sensor is located in the front passenger side of the engine on this particular model.
