Your oil pump is going out, Their is a little screen on the pump that can be blocked from gunk, Also the oil chanels fron the pump to the top of the block are blocked up. If so you can try a old trick of a gallon of Deasel fuel to a full tank of gas and run that into the system this will help out and their is also a additive you can buy and this helps out. But its not a quick fix. Untill this is fixed were you are getting more oil to the top of the lifters dont hot rod the motor because it will LOCK UP... If you are looking for a quick fix take the car to the shop and have them rebuild the block. But you need to change the oil on a reg. bases. So start small and change the oil and filter check the oil pump and screen. And then add some oil cleaner from a parts store.

Remove the valve cover, start the engine and find out. If this is the case and the top of the head is not all gummed up with sludge replace the oil pump. It the top of the head is gummed up the inside of the engine must be desludged before you install the new oil pump.

Hi i have a 2004 vwlt 2.5tdi when the engine gets warm theres a tapping/rattle from top of head i seem to be worse as you let of the throttle,no smoke or lost of power any suggestion cheers jeff

MOTOR IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH OIL TO THE TOP END TO LUBRICATE VALVES AND LIFTERS. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS; OIL PUMP NEEDS REPLACED, ENGINE NEEDS FLUSHED, OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. BAD RESULT MOTOR WILL EVENTUALLY BLOW UP IF NOT ATTENDED TO SOON.

To oil press down to 0 when engine is running

Hi!!
Check Oil Pressure Switch, make sure is properly connected and working, if all seems OK, take vehicle to a Garage to have Oil Pump tested. I would recommend not to drive the vehicle if Oil Pressure Switch is or seems to be working correctly, damage to the engine and components can occur.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Oil leaking from engine right at the top of the bell housing?

it sounds like your oil pressure sending unit has gone bad. It is on the top back of the eng. close to the fire wall. If you don't have a good tool to take it out you could use a plumbing stem puller. It worked great. proper size is 1 1/16
Good luck and hope this helps. When replacing the oil sensor, make sure you do not use and teflon tape or silicon. The sensor is tapered and need a good ground to the engine to get proper readings.

I have an oil leak, oil shows up on top of the engine.

Spray cold engine down with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Let air out. Keep watch on where you first see the oil. It is most likely from your valve cover gasket.

Removal of oilpan

the engine needs to be supported from the top. your oil pan is most likely hanging up on the oil pump. to remove, the subframe must be lowered abit after you've supported the engine from the top.
