We are having troubles with our 2003 Chev TB. Changed out the cam shaft sensor and now the diagnostics say that the crank shaft sensor is bad. Will this cause the rpms gage to fluctuate when in idle?

I have seen several engines in these trail blazers do this.It is possible that the crank sensor is bad.I would check connectors very closely. The other issue is an oil pressure problem that affects the variable valve timing and causes false cam and crank sensor codes.Have had to replace more than one engine to fix this.Good luck.I would put a manual oil pressure guage on it and see if oil pressure drops below 20 psi hot.

Ok,. ok?? Hello -- if you have a bad crankshaft sensor -- why don't you just replace it??
It's not that difficult and is readily available at your local parts store,. and yes, it COULD CAUSE rpms to fluctuate,. you will not know until you replace the broken part first...
Best regards

Most crank sensors work or they don't, A vacuum leak will cause that, also check fuel pressure regulator vac hose for fuel in it.

Theft light on? Flashing? Also, if you can't afford to rent a scan tool, how do you plan to get the trouble codes? It's like asking a Dr. to diagnose you but refusing to get lab tests. If you want to fix it yourself you need the proper tools.

Why won't it start?

Is there spark at the coil or coils to an through the spark plug wires .Is there fuel pressure ? Does the engine have compression ? Do you know what these thing's are ? You can go to youtube an find trouble shooting videos ! Type in cranks no start ! Look at Eric the car guy , scanner danner videos . Why did you replace the cam sensor ? did your vehicle have a DTC - diagnostic trouble code ?

My pt cruiser just quit driving down the road one day put it on computer said coil pack was bad changed it still wouldnt start hooked back up to computer said cam sensor was bad changed it still wouldnt...

On this type of vehicles' "Diamler-Chrysler" for some reason the Crank and Cam sensor go bad at the same time but it will still tell you its either one or the other, if you are still getting the Cam sensor trouble code, try replacing the Crank Shaft Position Sensor, I just had a Dodge vehicle with the same problem but in reverse, it kept saying Crank Sensor but it turned out it was the Cam Sensor. Good Luck.

Car would not start, after siiting for an hour it did start .

mcdevito75 here, BEST BET, let the shop do this work, too many un forseen problems could come up. The stalling and unable to start for a while could also be a bad ignition module, no test for this part, but I would have it changed, for if it is a bad ignition module, all this other work will not fix the stalling and later start of your car.

Crank shaft sensor? is this the same as cam shaft

no each one has its own job,
crank sensor is counting crank shaft rpms
cam sensor is counting cam shaft rpms
is there any lights coming on just as this is happening?
i think you should have the fuel pressure checked when it dies out,you need at least 50psi at fuel rail

Car cranks but won't start. Diagnostic code says

I changed all the parts I mentioned and finally I decided to try the crank shaft sensor and if that didn't work I was going to replace the cam shaft sensor. Luckily the crank shaft sensor worked but only after I replaced all the other parts. But at least now it finally started.

Thsank you.

Cam shaft sensor & air conditioner

I replaced the Cam Shaft Sensor. I also cleaned the Throttle Body with carb cleaner. I had my wife hold down the accelerator, while running I sprayed down the throttle plate and the entire area around it. Now my TB finally idles smoothly, and it hasn't died yet!! Check engine light is gone and I passed the emissions test!! Yea!!!
