I have a 1989 Nissan Bluebird SSS SR18 (Di) model KEU12NA1 Type E-EU12. I recently topped up the reservoir with an over the counter steering fluid which is transparent in color and not eh same color as the original steering fluid. After about 4 months I noticed that when the engine is cold and just started the steering has become really stiff and jerky to turn. Only when the engine warms up does it become freer and lately even when the engine is hot, the steering is still a bit jerky if turned all the way to the right or the left. It drives and corners normally on the road however my concern is that I may have added the incorrect type of steering fluid. What is causing this type of stiffness and jerky movement and also what is the correct type of steering fluid to use?

All power steering fluid is the same actually us can use transmission fluid if u want
now being as you had to add fluid i would assume u have a leak some where in the system
you may be low on fluid also there probably air in system (when u have a leak it also allows air into system especially when you run low on fluid)
also if anyone ever put stop leak in system stop leak is a lot thicker oil and will take longer to heat up and thin out in cold weather to allow easy turning
first check for leaks repair if needed
if no leaks are found drain system add fresh power steering fluid
if that doesn't fix problem you have a bad power steering pump replace pump

94 nissan bluebird head gasget replace

You really need a manual to do this job. I can tear any thing down. But I have to have torque specs and sequence, plus timing alignment. Both are critical. Just a note.. Since it is a 94. If you have really high mileage, doing a head job, may blow out the piston rings. Just wasted money.

How and where do I add power steering fuild to a 1989 Brougham? Can't find the dip stick for the steering fuild and don;t kn ow when I should add the fuild. Can you help?

You add fluid at the P/S reservoir which is belt driven. There is a large cap on top. Remove the cap and there is a built in dip stick. Unless you have a leak you will never have to add fluid.

Power Steering

On the motor somewhere (probably the top, front) There will be a black cap.  It will be on top of a reservoir and it will say POWER STEERING FLUID (unless it has wore off)  The front of your motor will be where all the belts are (probably the passenger side).  The cap will have a dip stick attached more than likely.  The dip stick should have two markings on it for HOT  and COLD.  Use these two markings to make sure the fluid is filled up to at least the cold mark.  If not check your owners manual for the proper type of power steering fluid and add a little at a time checking every so often to see if it's full.
