The only problem that vehicle has is with cooling fans is relay/module or electrical harness to module that burns up located behind and under right front headlamp assy must remove headlamp to access relay/module that is what powers up fan motor module assy.

My 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same problem. Over heated when standing still. Took it to dealer and they could not find any problem with cooling fan. After doing my own investigation I found out that the electric cooling fan would begin to seize up after about 1hr. of operating. (gets hot)

The dealer would look at fan and see that it was running and think its ok. The problem is, it wasn't running fast enough.

I have a relay on the right side of front fender and jumped the fan to stay on with motor off. (must know what your doing). After about 1hr. fan started slowing way down. Returned it to dealer told them what the problem was. They were not smart enough to jump the relay so they put a couple hundred miles on it even though i told them it works OK when moving. Make sure you tell dealer to use the relay to jump.
Replace cooling fan motor. Works great

Hi, I suggest sell it fast! My 2002 Jeep Cherokee had problems with overheating when idling or in slow traffic. I took it to the service dept numerous times, and paid around $7000 AUD yet the problem was never resolved. I took to checking the water levels every 2-3 weeks and it was losing water. Yes, I did explain all this to my local Jeep dealer, it just added to the bill and time off the road. The Jeep has now done 60,000ks and now possibly needs a new engine (according to an independent dealer who is actually trustworthy). The suggest repair cost starts at $5000 AUD, yet if a new engine is needed the who knows what it will cost me. Oh, the car has been offroad (on sand) once, and was never reliable enough for me to take it off road again.

Sell it my friend, I seriously do not want you to go through what I have.

you electric fan probably isnt working with vehicle warmed up lift hood and watch temperature gauge when it starts to over heat check to see that fan is working if not it could be the fan relay or fan itself if the fan does turn on its most likley the thermostat

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo overheats when vehicle sits idling. Cools down when i take off and drive down the road...??? Please help. thanks

Many cars have a thermoswitch threaded into the radiator that activates the fans when engine exceedes normal optimum opperating temp. This sensor may have failed , or one of the 2 wires that go to it may have come unpluged or broken
