I had the same problem, my instrament panel had a loose connection. If that is the problem you will have to have someone reconnect it. You can also try to reset the computer, you can do that by putting your key in and turning it back and fourth (with out starting the car)12 times

Had a similar issue with my 99 Cherokee, after a lot of money wasted at Jeep dealer with the issue returning after a few days. Jeep replaced the gages, the wiring harness for that led to the gages twice. Took it to a friend of a co-worker shop and he made a custom wiring harness, the issue was the wiring harness was over heating and then failing.

1997 jeep wrangler wont start Fuel and volt gauges stay in the off position with the key on and I get no spark to the plugs.

I would suspect the ignition switch (electrical) is the problem due to the age of your Jeep. Sometimes when you turn the ignition key if it's really bad, you will feel a bit of roughness indicating the switch is breaking apart inside.

Turn the key from off to on repeatedly and see if you notice if the fuel & volt gauges work each time.

If you find it's not the switch, you'll need to check your wiring ground locations to make sure they are not rusted and are making good electrical contact. Specifically, a ground wire to the dash panel.

If all grounds are in excellent condition then you may need to trace the wiring from the battery to the ign. switch to the gauges to see if you can find any damaged loose or pinched wiring. A good 12 volt test light should help you to isolate and find this issue, start at the battery and work your way through:)

FLEX your wiring a bit and make sure it's still flexible. Sometimes your wiring can become so corroded over time that current barely makes it to the destination.

Good luck.

2003 Satria, Tacho and Fuel gauge dont work . Fuel gauge comes up now & again low fuel light works. Tacho works now & again. But speedo and temp do work all the time.

It may be that the speedo and temp are mechanical, whereas the tach and fuel are electrical. Check fuse for inst. cluster for clean and tight fitment. Check electrical connection at back of inst. cluster.
