No power going to the fuel pump!

Hi!
Since I was getting no fuel up to the filter, I checked the fuses in the dashboard all seem fine, I checked for voltage at the wire harness plug on top of the fuel tank and I only got 6.5V probably for the sending unit, but nothing else for the pump.
I also checked and did reset the inertia safety switch.
So I pulled the fuel pump assy. and of course the pump is seized.

My question is, is there a relay or a fuse somewhere else to be checked in order to get the power back to the fuel pump, and what would be the voltage!

Thanks!

p.s. sorry for the lengthy text

There are four relays under the hood on the drivers side fender. I think the order is main, ignition, ????, Fan. The second one from the driver is the relay for the fuel pump(ignition). Don't quote me, but I think you should measure 12v from both sides to ground when the pump should be on.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay to see if it is sending power to the pump ? The computer grounds the relay when the computer "sees" oil pressure or engine RPM.

No power at fuel pump

Sounds frustrating. Presumably you've also checked the fuse panel for blown fuses? Check to be sure you're at least getting power to the fuse, that will at least narrow down a problem before the fuse or after.

Was the fuel filter replaced when the fuel pump was installed? A clogged fuel filter may have been what took out pump#1, and it can quickly send pump #2 to the happy hunting ground also.

We replaced the relay switch, put in new fuel pump and filter. we tried to start it again and it just cranks but won't start. we checked the fuel pump fuse and it seems to be ok.....Don't know...

If the initial problem was that the vehicle would shut itself off at any speed, and that the dashboard would go black, then have the ignition switch checked, NOT the lock itself, but the cabling attached to it and that connects to the fuse box. This ignition harness is prone to failure, and can produce a problem similar to the one you describe. The part itself is about $100 or less, but it is difficult to install. Keep me posted.

You may want to try to see if the car will start while you spray starting fluid down the throttle body. If it doesn't, the problem may not be the fuel pump at all. There is an idle air control valve bolted to the front of the throttle body that can keep the car from starting as well.

If the car starts with the starting fluid, you might want to change your fuel filter. It's mounted under the car near the passenger rear door.

What else to check?

Check your fuse for the transmission if it is an automatic. It may have went into a limp mode without power to the soleniods as such all you will have is 2nd gear and reverse. Also the PRNDL switch may not be getting power too, so it would give you trouble starting.
