Check your break switch. It is located under the dash, intact with the break. When you push the break down, it triggers the switch, thus turning on your break lights. They are usually chrome looking and they are round. The break stem that holds the break pedal, when pushed, contacts the break switch. If you need anything else, let us know. Thank you for choosing FixYa. Good day.

You could check the brakelight switch located on the brake pedal linkage. Sometimes they move out of adjustment, sometimes they fail. The ones I've seen are usually plastic and the threads strip off so the jamb nut won't hold the switch in place correctly. It should be round (or at least the part with the mounting nut should be round) with a plug with 2 or 3 wires going into the back and located so that the brake pedal lever moves away from the switch when you push on the pedal. If you deem that it needs to be replaced the switch should be available at most auto parts stores.

SOURCE: No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier
The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores
SOURCE: rear brake lights don't work
you prob got a trailer plug prob bad wires if not tail lights run through turn signal switch tell fix ya bout me ok
SOURCE: 2003 trailblazer brake lights do not
Look for a bad common ground connection for the two lights. Modern cars seem to have a problem making secure long-lasting ground points. There may also be a problem with the turn indicator switch as both lights are run through that switch.
