Usually 100,000-120,000 miles. They are usually dependable. Take your front protection guard off of the engine, your front timing belt cover. It should only be a bolt or two. Visually inspect it. Look for damage in the chain. If money wasn't an issue, I would change at 100,000 miles. That is what the shop always says on timing chains. If you need anything else, just let us know. Thank you for using FixYa.

2001 Chevrolet tracker sports package is 2.5engine an interference engine or not. think timing chain is gone no compression shut off then will not start.

Well you are right in saying you have a chain and not a belt.
Engines with timing chains are almost never interference engines, and yours is not on that list.
Its probably one of the tensioners or idlers that has failed.

How do I change the water pump on a 2001 tracker 2.5 liter v6

You have to remove the whole front timing cover to do so. Then its held in by four bolts. Belts, puppies and all that have to be removed.

Is a Chevrolet Tracker 2.4 liter engine an interference design?

Oddly, I could not find any reference to a 2.4 L engine. Other sizes, yes. Who makes the engine? Suzuki, Mitsubishi?

Wher is the timing belt inspection plate on a 2001 2.2l cavalier

The 2.2 liter does not have a timing belt. It has a timing chain.

The timing chain cover is located behind the crank pulley. It can be removed to inspect/replace the timing chain.

I can give you more details on how to do this if you would like?

Typically a chain will last hundreds of thousands of miles and generally does not need to be replaced as a routine service.
