The ( iac ) idle air control needs cleaned. it is mounted on throttle body to control idle speed, remove the torx screws holding it on. do not put body of valve in any liquid or it will ruin it. clean valve on end with carb, or throttle body cleaner. use a old tooth brush to clean it, or similar. this should do the trick if it is not bad!! also check wiring to it for broken wires etc. have a good day !! do not push on valve or it will mess up setting. proper setting is 1 and 1/8 from tip of valve to body of iac. hope this helps.

Chevy Malibu 2001 with 89,000 miles idling too high during park

Back to the mechanic - sounds like either an IAC motor or TPS sensor is the problem, but also could be the throttle cable (sticking leaving the throttle not fully closed).

Sounds like maybe a motor mount may have broken,if you
open the hood and put the car in drive ,then neutral then reverse
the engine should only "rock" about an inch or so,if it really jumps
that is the problem.

While switching from park to drive the car jumps, what does that mean?

if your passing down past reverse,, then it may jump a little, when shifting into any gear you should have the brake applied, if its an abnormal Jump, your idle could be set to high which is making the car want to go right away, adjust that as needed,

My 98 Chevy Malibu v6 3.1 liter engine high idling

You probably have a large vacuum leak. With the engine running, listen under the hood for a hissing sound. Check all of the rubber lines running from the intake.

Will a chevy s-10 '97 transmission work in a malibu ls '99

Nope, trucks in most cases have rear wheel drive and your malibu has front wheel drive

My car jumps when I put it into gear, but it drives fine.

open your hood, have someone shift from reverse to drive with the parking brake set and watch how much the engine moves, my suspicion is that one or more of the engine mounts are broken, making it look like the engine wants to jump out of its 'home'- moving more the an inch or so then going into gear...pinpoint the broken mount and replace. :)
