My '94 Deville Concours' interior 'automatic' rearview mirror has stopped working. The lighted button at the bottom of the mirror lights up sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. It appears that the unit is not getting power at all times, but it also doesn't seem to operate when it HAS power. My local garage told me they'd have to take out the headliner to fix it. I'd really not go through that... any ideas?

Although the fault may be in the mirror itself (like a switch), wiring and connector is above the headliner, and that is what you need to check.

SOURCE: INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR FELL OFF

Just about all auto parts stores carry a little kit that includes slovent and glue to replace the metal "nub" onto the glass. There is a screw on the mirror that attaches the mirror to this "nub". Do not use force to remove the old glue or nub, windshield will crack.

Look if the engine is doing what you say then it is overheating and there is no problem with the sensor, remember the sensor only tells what is going on, it does not cause anything like overheating. Have you bled the system of air, there is a factory procedure to do this.

What is the button under rearview mirror for

The button on the bottom of the mirror is called the auto rear view dimming.

This button when turned on will dim the lights of the car behind you if they are bright lights. it is like the older cars where you would flip the lever on the bottom of the mirror if a car behind you had high beam lights on and it was shining in your eyes at night. this will do it automaticly hope this helps good day

2003 lincoln navigator lights on rearview mirror will not shut off, killing the battery.

If you mean the outside rearview mirrors, they have a courtesy light called a puddle light. And if not working, you may have the interior overhead light turned off on its selector switch.
Usually this is caused by the rear hatch or rear tailgate window not being fully closed. Some models may have an extra courtesy switch in the rear cargo area that is intended for "picnic" mode and overrides the automatic shutoffs.
There is suppose to be a battery "minder" which is suppose to keep the battery from discharging when lights are left on. You may need a dealer to explain why this feature has not worked.

Reading lights won't turn off C6 2007 corvette

My C6 vette does this when I have pressed the little round buttons right beside those lights and forgotten to turn them back off. Try just pressing both of them (on both sides of the bottom of the rearview mirror) and then closing the doors.

Custom Rear view mirror

Hiya...ALL factory-installed rearview mirrors are installed with different wires due to options.
About 6 different rearview mirrors are installed with those options such as On-Star, light, compass, and those features which use different wires....THIS CANNOT be modified with different rearview mirror....**for example, the Equinox owner attempt to pull out a factory-installed base rearview mirror and put in different one that has compass/temperature built into the rearview mirror**

However, the wires are located inside the front headliner which requires removing the sunvisor (and possible removal of interior plastic trim part at the left/right ends of the windshield) prior to pull the headliner down, and a small metal philips or torx screw is used to secure the rearview mirror onto the bracket glued to the windshield.

The best solution is to leave the original factory-installed rearview mirror in place.
