Consulted with a 5th grader, seems the course of action is to take it somewhere and have a mechanic service the engine. seems they have computer analyzers which they connect to a port on the car and it reveals an error code or codes that lead to a diagnosis of fault and plan for suggested repairs.

adults on the other hand tend to think that the light coming on should cause one to ask random strangers what this light could possibly mean. it is in a car and it does say service engine on it, but that is just not enough information to suggest a rational course of action.

Not sure what you mean by rotors, but the engine light will not warn of brake wear. Engine light only comes on for service warning or beacuse af an engine fault. Hope this helps

The light means several different things Did she just purchase gas? Sometimes if the gas cap was not tighten properly it will cause the service engine light to come on. Usually you can drive the car until you have it checked out especially if the car seems to be running ok.

Service engine light reset
The "servcie engine soon" light doesn't come on because of an oil change. That means that you have a problem with the car. If the light is just ON steady, than its most likely EVAP system problem or 02 sensor issue. It could be numerous things causing that light to come on , but if the light is flashing, get the car to the dealer ASAP.
