First, you want to remove the 4 screws on the door panel. Next you have to remove the door grip. To do this, you have to get a small screwdriver with a long shaft. Insert it into the top of the grip and it will force a clip that holds the grip to the handle. Remove the screw found there. Next is the tricky part. You have to find something very small but capable of prying with. Pull door lock up, pry out the orange clip - it may take some doing so don't give up. After you have removed clip, remove screw found there. Finally pull cover from around door handle and remove final screw.
There is a screw behind the ashtray of the door, and also another
in the armrest of the door.....underneath little cap. Once removed, the motor assembly can be removed by drilling the rivits out. The
replacement can be installed by using M5-0,8mm x 12mm bolts
and nuts (part # 44192 at Advanced Auto Parts. Motor assembly
for window was purchased at Salvage Yard for $40.
On the 2000 Catera, the rear door panel is held together with screws around the perimeter ,behind the ashtray and the one in the middle which is located under a rubber cap at the bottom of the door grip well.Which is hard to see.
Darn. i have the exact same prob and i was hoping there would be a solution in here. i removes all the screws around the outside and in the door handle but could not figure out how it was still connected to the door in the middle of the panel.

I have the same problem. A mechanic worked on it for a while and decided the window seemed to be a bad fit. Catching/seizing. I just stopped using the window.
