I have a 2002 lincoln ls 3.9. and my car is having problems shifting into any gear and it making a funny sound like a wineding sound and takes higher RMP to shift but some times it shifts fine. ran a code check at autozone and it came up p0775 check engine light is on and the letter E. witch i was told it was presser controle Sillinoids. so im about to bye that, could there be any other problems beside that? if anyone can help me call 217-685-9650.im never on here thanks.

D5. This will use all 5 gears. D4 will not shift into 5th (overdrive). This causes higher revs on the highway, more noise and less fuel mileage. D4 is only really used when going down long hills for better engine braking. Leave it in d5 and let the cars computer do the shifting for you.
Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid,unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill,that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.
Very likley could be electrical, and the p[arts may have niot needed replacing...sounds like they just took out parts and replaced as a guess we will see if it fixes it deal.
HAVE A 03 LINCOLN LS V8 WITH A CVT TANSMITTION AND I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY CAR IS WHINDING UP TO 2500 RPM'S BEFORE SHIFTNG INTO SECOND GEAR AND IS READING AN "E" AS WELL DID U FINDA SOLUTION?
a rattling sound to some may sound different to others but sounds like timing ping to me
try a higher grade of gasoline and if it stops have the timing on the engine checked
