Air Suspension For a while I have been getting an "AIR LEAK" out of drivers side rear wheel well. Yesterday the air leak continued until it dumped all the air on the air bag suspension. Went to town to the garage and low and behold, (per my luck) when the mechanic came out it put back the air into the system. BUT still getting the air leak. It is the Integral Solenoid?? TANKS GARRETT

What has probably happened is you got a hole or cracks in your airbag. Dealerships and mechanics typically diagnoses it as the compressor but that is only to keep you coming back and wasting more money on something that will never truly be fixed. Both the airbag and the compressor are the problem. The compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag will kill the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at our conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. This is a PERMANENT fix. I added the link below so you can check it out.

Nine times out of ten it is the rear air spring leaking. With the car raised on a hoist and the air suspension switch off the air bags should hold pressure. Then spray them with soapy water and look for bubbles. You can also remove the air spring and pressurize it in a tank of water to expand it for a more thorough test but can be a little tricky. Often times the springs(bags) will leak only under certain loads. I believe that the replacement spring will come with a new solonoid. If not you should replace it anyway. If the air spring is ok you should check the ride heighth sensor on that side. A false signal could force the module to release the air.

I have a 1999 ford expedition Eddie bauer and my air ride suspension pump is coming on about every 10 minutes or so.this is not normal.what's wrong? What do I check first?

Your air suspension is leaking, could be a air bag or line or a fitting or a dump valve. Get a spray bottle full of soapy water and start spraying down the air ride components and watch for bubbles.

Air suspension will not pump up

You could have a bad pump, or a leak somewhere in the system! The pump is usually located on the passenger side wheel well! From there, follow the air lines along the underneath side of the vehicle to the suspension unit! if there are no leaks to that point, you may have to replace the air bag on the rear. They are very expensive to replace also! My 89 Continental was $1400!

Air suspension default line

unusual for only one corner to be out, the common problems are, air leaks, between valve block and suspension unit, ride level sensors, normally the clamp on the suspension corrodes and allows the sensor to float,it sounds like a air leak on that corner to me. you can buy a leak detection spray to help find the leak. the pump is also troublesome. located front bumper liner lh, but that would affect the whole system, I would check the plastic pipe is ok from the valve block to the suspension unit first, then get the fault codes out of the air suspension module, the valve block is in the boot spare wheel well. hope this helps.

Air suspension light was on then there was a loud noise like something heavy had dropped in the trunk so I stopped and noticed that the rear of the body was sitting down on the back wheels

You will find that the rear air suspension hose has failed. To check, wieh the car running listen for a loud hiss. That is where the leak is. Take it to a dealer you pay $200 plus. Fix it yourself,fifty cents.

Chanses are the leak willbe at the drvers side rear connector to the shock. hope that helps

I have a 1999 ford expedition XLT and just yesterday, I have no back suspension!! My car is not drivable and I don't know what to check first!

It's listed here as a 98 lincoln and a 99 exepedition.
I'll go with the lincoln, as this sounds like an air suspension problem. First, check the system shutoff
switch, inside one of the side panels in the cargo area.If for some reason it is off, turn it on and your all
set. If it is on, with the key in the on position listen
under the hood for the compresser working, if it is working, listen at the rear of the car for an air leak.
If the front end is up and the rear suddenly went
down, odd's are there is an air leak. possibly a blown air bag. Hope this helps. Good luck.

2006 GMC Envoy Air suspension - Back of the car is on the wheels every morning. Is this a problem with the Air suspension?

yes you must have a leak somewhere. maybe in the air bags or the lines. jack up the car while there is still air in the bags get some soapy water in a spray bottle and start spraying the air bag and lines and pump until you find the leak. then replace whats needed.

Land rover Discovery 2004, rear right hand side down 2 inches

If you have the coil spring suspension, then your spring for that corner has really sagged[doubtful] I suspect you actually have the rear air suspension ,and the air spring for the Right/Rear has lost air, allowing the rear end to lower down greatly. Usually, you need a new air spring when one develops a leak. You may or may not be able to see the leak with a spray solution of soapy water after the spring is removed for inspection. Sometimes you have to apply about 20psi of air pressure into the spring to inflate it a bit, then put the spring under water in a big enough tank/tub of water to catch the leak that way.

EXPEDITION REAR AIR RIDE PROBLEM

do you have just rear air suspension? here's rear only. 4 wheel different. Deler an run a diagnostic test with WDS machine and get fault codes.

The air suspension system is designed to improve ride, handling and general vehicle performance for static, on-road and off-road driving conditions:
  • Ride is improved by using an air type spring (the soft ride is inherent).
  • Handling is improved by maintaining constant vehicle attitude.
The system consists of unique rear air springs, the air compressor, air lines, air spring solenoids, height sensor, air suspension control module, attachments and associated signals derived from both driver and road inputs. With these components and signals, the air suspension control module commands changes in vehicle height that are necessary for the load leveling features.
The load leveling feature rear air suspension (RAS) systems shall automatically make adjustments in vehicle height so that the vehicle is always at trim height and constant front-to-rear vehicle attitudes are maintained over the expected load range of the vehicle. Adjustments in height that are necessary to correct height differences between the vehicle's left and right sides for the RAS system shall be restricted to what can be reliably achieved with one air suspension height sensor.
The system uses one air suspension height sensor, a steering sensor, generic electronic module (GEM) and other vehicle sensors to measure driver and road inputs. The system changes vehicle height using an air compressor, two air lines and the use of air springs with air spring solenoids.
The air suspension system holds vehicle height when the rear hatch or any door is opened. The system stores rear vehicle height the moment any open door is detected. The system then maintains this height regardless of the addition or removal of a load. The system will return to its commanded height when all doors are closed or the vehicle speed exceeds 16 km/h (10 mph).

Air Suspension Height Sensor
One air suspension height sensor is mounted on the vehicle. The air suspension height sensor sends a voltage signal to the air suspension control module. The output ranges from approximately 4.75 volts at minimum height (when the vehicle is low or in full jounce), to 0.25 volts at maximum height (when the vehicle is high or in full rebound). The air suspension height sensor has a useable range of 80 mm (3.2 in) compared to total suspension travel of 200-250 mm (8 to 10 in) at the wheel. Therefore, the air suspension height sensor is mounted to the suspension at a point where full rear suspension travel at the wheel is relative to 80 mm (3.2 in) of travel at the air suspension height sensor. The air suspension height sensor is attached between the No. 5 frame crossmember (upper socket) and the panhard rod (lower socket).
When the air suspension height sensor indicates that the rear of the vehicle is lower than trim under normal driving conditions, the air compressor will turn on and pump compressed air to the air springs. When the sensor indicates that the rear of the vehicle is raised above trim under normal driving conditions, this will cause the air to be vented from the air springs to lower the vehicle back to its trim height level
