Transmission,forward gears not working just reverse.is this problem wide spread with the windstar/3.8 engine?

Transmission gear assembly and transmission needs inspection. Also check the transmission fluid level. Also is the fluid getting leaked or its low.

Has the transmission ever had any services done? Its possible it has just gone out. There are clutches and bands inside and without proper service they will go out.

If this is truly a escape your transmission is finished.

hate to say but need trans mission

No vacuum modulator on this car. could be a clogged filter but the real question is what clogged it. Replacing a clogged filter may make the symtom go away for a while but it will not fix the problem.

p0705 is the transmission range sensor which tells the ECM what gear the transmission is in neutral/reverse. Which was probably happened when you lost Drive gear

check your transmission fluid, if it has enough fluid the your transmission is bad! transmissions are going out a lot in these vehicles

Changing the transmission filter and oil may help. You have to pull the pan off the bottom of the transmission. There is a big filter you have to pull all the bolts out of and change. Need to also pull bell housing cover and drain the torque converter then refill with oil. If that doesn't work you may have to change torque converter.
