Front door handles wont work from outside - 1994 Buick Regal Gran Sport

I am not familiar with this model but have experienced a similar nightmare on a very model. I suspect that the child safety locks are set which is stopping you opening the doors from the inside and the outside handles are not working because the latches may have been set in the locked position.

So when you replaced the handle, you verified the linkage was in good working order, correct? If the door opens using the interior handle I'd say it's not the latch, but either the handle or the linkage to the latch that's bad. Open up the door and do some investigating.

replace the outside door handle. happened to me with same car, had to replace both handles. poor design causes the lifter arm to bend and eventally causes it to not lift enought to open the door.

There is NOT a mechanical connection to the outside door handles on the front doors. There is an electronic "door popping solenoid" This is a electronic problem. I think there was a recall on this.

Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).
