CODE 11 is a Transmission Control Unit Code
CODE 16 is sometimes a Fuel Filter Issue (due to starving the injectors for fuel)
CODE 17 is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (responsible for communicating with your Tachometer and speedometer) This also causes the D light to flash and on some Accords with a "sport shifter" the S light will flash.

11-Engine RPM (Ignition coil signal) open or shorted.
16 Fuel injectors
17 VSS - speed sensor

Changing your VSS is the cheapest place to start. It is located on the back of your transmission (workable from standing near your passenger side front tire). Remove your air intake tube to see it more clearly, it will be located on the trans below your thermostat housing. Unplug it, and use a 10mm socket, then wiggle it out. You can find a new one on eBay pretty cheap. After you change it, unplug your battery for a few seconds to clear your check engine codes.

The worst case is that your TCU had failed. Below is a description of that.

D4 lite flashes

Flashing D4 light is an error from the TCU (transmission control unit), so you got something going on with your transmission. If you want to pull the error code, remove the passengers side kick panel and look for a pair of wires with a blue connector at the end. Stick a paper clip or some other piece of wire into each hole of the connector to short the wires. Put your key in the ignition and turn 2 clicks. The D4 light will flash the code...short flashes=1 and long flashes=10. Add the number of short and long flashes to get your code. Errors are below:

0-Transmission control unit (TCU) faulty.
1-Lock-up solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
2-Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
3-Throttle Position Sensor circuit open or shorted.
4-Vehicle Speed Sensor open or shorted - No signal from speedometer.
5-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit shorted.
6-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit open.
7-Shift Solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
9-Counter shaft or transmission speed pulse generator open or shorted.
10-Coolant Temperature Sensor open or shorted.
11-Engine RPM (Ignition coil signal) open or shorted.
12-(No code 12 used)
13-Main shaft speed pulse generator open or shorted.
14-Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.
15-Kick down switch circuit shorted.

Hope helps.

MY 92 HONDA ACCORD EX AS BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM WERE YOU SHIFT THE GEARS TO DRIVE 4 AND ITS STARTS FLASHING THE D4 SIGNAL... HELP OR SOLUTION ANY ONE?

The D4 is flashing can you tell me why

This is involved. When the D4 light blinks, it is indicating a problem with the input or output systems for the A/T. If you find your Service Check Connector (it should be near or at the top of the kick panel on the passenger's side; it's usually blue and has two holes in it; it is at the end of a wire so don't look for a fixed unit; it is often simply tucked in behind the top of the kick panel. You should pull the kick panel out to find it) you can insert a paper clip so that it connects the two holes. Then, if you turn your ignition to ON II (do not start the car) the D4 light will blink out a code, using both long and short blinks. The blinks have to be carefully counted. Problem codes 1 through 9 care indicated by short blinks. Problem codes 10 through 15 are indicated by a series of long and short blinks (you have to add them together to get the code).

Locate the two-pin female diagnostic connector behind the glove box. Use a very small jumper wire or paper clip to connect the two pins. Turn key on, (do not start the engine). The D4 light should start flashing. Note that it may do long and short flashes. The long flashes mean 10. (Example, three long flashes followed by two short flashes means trouble code 32.) Possibly it could pause and display several codes, so be sure and let it run through it's cycle a few times and carefully count the flashes.

There are more than 40 codes listed in the service manual, so respond with yours and I'll tell you what the service manual says about it.

I tell you all this to indicate that the procedure is fairly involved, and since you probably don't have a list of what the codes mean, I would have to say that it would be best to find, if you can, a Honda dealer to read the codes and check your transmission. Most of these problems are connector or sensor related and are usually indicated by the transmission not shifting from one gear to another, or by the transmission jerking hard when it shifts. If your having no problems and you are in a position to not have access to a Honda service department, you can find the backup radio fuse in your engine compartment fuse box and take it out(not with the car running) for 10 seconds or so, then put it back. It will clear the computer. If the D4 starts blinking again, it would indicate that the warning was not just a glitch.

Hope helps.

2000 accord ex w/ 4 cylinder engine. The light around the D4 (indicating gear) flashes and the car accelerates very slowly in cold weather until the engine gets warm. What is wrong? How to fix?''

The D4 indicator light flashing indicates that your car's computer believes that there is something wrong with your transmission.

This is what the manual for your 2000 Accord says:

The "D4" indicator comes on for a few seconds when you turn the ignition switch ON (II). If it flashes while driving (in any shift position), it indicates a possible problem in the transmission. Avoid rapid acceleration and have the transmission checked by an authorized Honda dealer as soon as possible.

Sometimes this will mean that you are simply low on transmission fluid, but you really should have it checked.

Hope this helps you.

Gear Position light D4 is always flashing irrespective of gear.

This issue is caused by a transmission fault or malfunction, most likely a shift solenoid in the trans has failed or the trans control module has a problem, the trans can be tested for codes that will show what circuit or component of the trans controls is causing the light to stay blinking, have it tested.

Flashing shift indicator light

A flashing D4 light means a transmission error code is stored in the cars computer.

Is could be something as simply as a cable adjustment.

Without knowing the actual trouble code, it's hard to tell.
