Any manual gearbox which is front wheel drive will use EP90 hypoid gear oil ,but if its a rear wheel drive on an older vehicle then engine oil can be used but be sure to check with handbook as some vehicles use double helical cut gears and will need the EP oil because of the pressure on the gear teeth but the use of this engine oil was mainly on old cars that are now museum pieces ,showing my age here .
yes speak to the dealer whos receptionist will tell you anything to get your car in the workshop so they can charge you full retail PLUS the telephone number added into your bill .You will not damage your MANUAL gearbox using EP90 gear oil ,you could use a thinner one like EP80 but the thicker one is ok and you cannot damage a gearbox using EP90 .Your spotty little nerdy receptionist knows nothing about cars thats why hes the receptionist because hes a failed mechanic or a mummys boy who doesnt like getting his hands dirty .You asked what oil for a manual gearbox and evidently you had two replies now if two mechanics who do this job every day of their lives give you a positive answer for free we must be right ,if iam not sure about something i always say so to start with ,I have worked in the motor game for a long time and i can tell you a few stories about dealers and the idiots that a lot of them employ because remember the old adage of if you only pay peanuts who do employ ,but the charges they charge ?? 1989 vehicle isnt this a classic by now ?' 21 years old

It was not helpful at all. And I found out from Honda that if I was to put that thick of a oil in there I would have destroyed my tranz.
