My 94 pickup wont idle, i had to raise the idle speed to keep it running. it happened after i replaced the fuelpump ive checked for vacume leaks and couldnt find any. could the carb need rebuilt?
the fuelfilter is by the tank, the fuelpump is on the engine so yes dirt can get in the carb.the fuelfilter is by the tank, the fuelpump is on the engine so yes dirt can get in the carb.

ive checked those and they seem to by ok, im thinking i may have gotten a peice of dirt in the fuel line that is in the carb plugging the idle circut if i hold my hand over the carb it picksup and runs.ive checked those and they seem to by ok, im thinking i may have gotten a peice of dirt in the fuel line that is in the carb plugging the idle circut if i hold my hand over the carb it picksup and runs.

Could possibly be the speed sensor malfunctioning. Have it checked or just run the idle screw up a couple turns for now to keep it running. Once it keeps running, turn the screw back out to a proper idle. And sometimes it's the AC speed up solenoid not working to raise the idle when AAC is on.
think its time to remove the head and renew the gasket ,also remove the valves and renew the seals and gring them in a bit ,maybe even renew the valve springs ,or buy a newer vehicle as its nearly 20 yrs old
Check your set screw, and make sure it's not too low. Adjust the screw to the point that where it idles at the proper speed. Also, maybe check your throttle cable for too much slack.
I had a similar problem. Nissan sr18di engine. car would run fine and randomly engine would cut off and only start after 20 minutes. Changed distributer fine since
Sounds like you have another Vacum Leak, What is this thing idleing speed AT...?????? Vacum Leak Cause high Fast Idel...so i would check futher into more leaks
sounds like you have a vacum leak in one of the vacum lines or you need to change the idle air control valve. start the engine and raise the hood and lisen for a vacum leak and check all vacum lines for dryrot. if no vacum leak can be found then replace the idle air control valve, this controls your idling
Check all the old ' brittle plastic vacume line connections .And the idle control valve unit located near the passenger side firewall. Over the front wheel cover. passenger side.over.
you got it . it is more than likely you have vacuum leak . to chek use a propane torch and while idling intoduce propane at possible area(intake gasket, egr valve , brake booster etc) if idle speeds up and smooth fix it.
