I will think that its the right rear, not because your turning right do i say this but because of the way bearings ride on pressure and negative pressure. see when you turn right the bearings on the right hand side will ride tight on the top and loose on the bottom. when you turn left the bearings will ride loose on the top and tight on the bottom. This is difficult to say without someone in the trunk while you drive listening for direction of sound. Also when bearings or u-joints go bad the sound can carry through drive shafts, axle housings and make it very difficult to locate. the only true way is to tear down and inspect races, axle shafts for wear.

Rearend prob.[noise]

Here are the common causes or rear end noises
Constant high pitched whine at all speeds: Pinion Bearings or Ring gear carrier bearings
Whine at steady speeds or whines on deceleration: Rear end gear set is worn and will need to be replaced.
Rumbling type of noises are caused by wheel bearings or a tire with a separated cord.

At 40 to 50 mph I hear a whine coming from the rear of the truck, I have put two quarts in the rear end thinking it was low but it getting worse.

Noises are tricky. It could be a lot of things. If your are sure that the noise is in the rear end, consider U-joint harmonization as a possibility. They could be worn. You could be hearing bearing wear and there is no "band-aid for that, you just have to get in there, determine which bearing it is and fix it. You might be hearing noise from the gears themselves. Again, once a gear wear pattern is set, it's there until you replace the gears. Listen to hear if you are only hearing the whine under acceleration or under deceleration (no brake) that will help determine if you are hearing a gear wear pattern that is on the drive or the coast side of the gears. Sorry there's no quick fix additive that I know of but hopefully this helps guide you to the root cause.

2003 ford f350 supercab shortbed 4x4 diesel. Truck makes a loud humming noise almost like a bad bearing at 20 mpd and above while on the throttle. If you let off the throttle at any speed it stops making...

Noisy crownwheel and pinion whine , most likely worn carrier and pinion bearings, new bearings may not cure the fault, as the back lash and tooth engagement has changed and may still whine.

2002 dodge 1500 rear end making whining nosie

This could be one of several problems: If the noise increases with speed, and you are only hearing it from the rear differential and not the transmission, it could be the rear differential carrier bearings, or rear axle bearings going bad. If you are only hearing the noise upon acceleration or deceleration, the rear differential ring and/or pinion gears may be going bad and the rear differential will need an overhaul. You'll have to get the rear wheels off the ground and see if you can pinpoint the location of the noise with something such as a stethoscope. If it's coming from the rear differential, you'll need to pull the bolts and the cover to determine if the gears are still in good shape, or if there is any pitting. Same with the carrier bearings; if you see pitting/ discoloration, they'll need replacement. If the noise is coming from one side towards the end of the axle shaft near the wheel, it's most likely a axle bearing going bad, and you'll need to pull the wheels, remove the diff. cover to release the C clip which holds the rear axle in place at the differential, and pull the axle out. You also need a special tool with a slide hammer to remove the axle bearing and seal.

Steering wheel vibration and whine noise from rear of car

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.

Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.

Good luck,
