2002 Jag X type driver side turn signal malfunctions when rear fog light is on

You have a faulty earth connection on one of the rear lights ,or both ? try running a seperate ground or earth wire to each real light and iam sure this will cure the problem

If it is a double filament bulb, try to rotate by 180 degrees in base, since there is a difference in power and touch of the bottom pins

With the switch in sidelight or dip

position, pull the switch to its first

position to turn on the front fog lights.

Pushing the switch in or turning it to OFF
or AUTO will turn off the front fog lights (this is for the front)

With the switch in any position except

OFF or AUTO, pull the switch to its

second position to turn on the rear fog

lights. This will also turn on the front fog

lights unless main beam is selected.

Pushing the switch in or turning it to OFF
or AUTO will turn off the rear fog lights (this is for the rear)

Identify the blown bulb. Note that if a headlight bulb has blown, the dip beam is on the outside and the high beam is on the inside. Turn off the ignition switch and light switches.

Open the hood and replace any blown headlight bulbs. Press the plastic spring clips and remove the bulb holder from the assembly. Pull the bulb out of the bulb holder and replace it with a new bulb. It only fits one way. Be sure not to touch the bulb's glass. Replace any parking lights at the same time, they are in the headlamp unit too.

Remove the front turn signal light unit in the bumper to change the turn signal bulb. Push gently on the inside edge and insert a blade between the bumper and the lens at the outside edge. Compress the spring and remove the lens. Fit a new lamp by inserting it into the plug. The side marker light is changed using a similar process.

Open the trunk to replace the rear fog light, stop light, tail light, reversing light and turn signal light. Remove the rear light cover and turn the bulb holder fastener 90 degrees counter clockwise. Remove the expired bulb, fit a new one and replace the parts, turning the bulb holder clockwise.

sounds like there is a bad short and they are hard to find.

More specifically, with the light switch in the "on" position (not the "auto" position), pull the light switch out. First click is the front fogs, the second click is both the front and rear fogs.

hiya from uk the rear fogs and front fogs will only work when head lights are on also this is the correct operation re if weather conditions warrant use of fog s then you should req head lights ? if you understand ? as for indicators/hazards this problem is more than likely the relay switch is at fault ? this relay on most modern cars is the hazard lights switch which is a combined indicators and hazard lights relay unit try a replacement or price a new unit hope this helps ?

yes they are interchangible except the front spoiler is different, but everything else is the same. (the front lower spoiler on the 93 has built in fog lamps)
Pretty easy repair and I could only hope his car is the same color....

If the problem is that the brake lights will not turn off, the problem is most likely the CHMSL relay. An easy check is to take the cover off the fuse block mounted on the driver's side fender well and swap the fog lamp relay with the CHMSL relay. If that fixes it, just get a new relay for the fog lamps and you're good to go. Note, my 2002 s10 does not have fog lamps, but it still had the relay populated in the fuse block.

Usually when this kind of thing happens it will be a bad earth, that means that somewhere within the lighting circuit the earth cable has broken down. Try and locate the earth cable that connects the rear bulbs, see if any rust or damage is visible.
If not you could try adding a seperate earth cable to a clean point close to the bulb holder in the rear.

If this fails to work then it may be an idea to talk with an auto electrician.
