The air conditioner is blowing hot air and the compressor is making noises, but the noise doesn't seem severe enough to indicate a blown clutch or compressor. When I turn the AC on, the RPM's increase and I can hear the compressor engage. Is this possibly a simple issue of recharging the refrigerant? Regards!!

It seems like a recharge may be in order. I'd try it for sure. Most recharge kits come with a pressure gauge that fits on the end of the coolant can and shows you how much refrigerant you have in the system.

Air conditioner makes noise and blows hot air

with the engine off and keys in your hand, find the ac compressor and try to turn the clutch assembly in the very front of the compressor,if it is hard to turn, then the compressor is bad.

Problem with heating and air conditioning. The driver's side is blowing hot air and the passenger side is blowing cold air

Air Conditioner blows warm air
  1. Air conditioner system is discharged. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by an MVAC certified technician, utilizing approved recovery/recycling equipment. Repair as necessary.
  2. Air conditioner compressor clutch not engaging. Check compressor clutch wiring, electrical connections and compressor clutch, and repair or replace as necessary.

My air conditioning began making a rythmic squeaking noise when the AC was on. It has now quit blowing out of the front vents. It works on the feet, defrost vents and in the rear air. What could this be??

On a 1991 olds ciero a non engine external knocking noise. could this be the air conditioner compressor?

A failing AC compressor clutch will make noise more like a rattle but it will become hot enough when it is failing that the rubber grommets around the clutch plate will begin to "stink" as they begin to melt and fall out. It will smell like burnt rubber smoke.

If you remove the drive belt you can try to see if there is play in the pulley for the AC compressor but you won't be able to "engage" the clutch to test it (uses electrical switching). If you can spin the pulley and it makes noise, suspect a failing compressor clutch.

While you have the drive belt off spin the water pump pulley and you should only hear a gurgling noise from water in the motor being pushed and no metal on metal noise whatsoever. If you hear a clunking noise when the motor runs you could also have a worn motor mount so you would want to check those also.

Same noise

Just change the compressor it is easier than changing the clutch if you do dont forget to change the reciever dryer and the orfice tube and have a evacuation done on it.

YOU SEEM TO HAVE A LOOSE OR BAD AC COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT. WHEN YOU SWITCH THE TO THE VENTS CLOSE TO THE WINDSHIELD IT TURN THE AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH ON, IT ACTIVATES THE DEFROST. TRY POURING SOME WATER ON THE AC BELT AND SEE IF NOISE GOES AWAY. THE BELT MAY NEED ADJUSTMENT OR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. GOOD LUCK
