I just bought a 1981 bronco and the vin code said it has a 351 windser but it has a 351 modified and from every thing i read they did not use the modified in 1981 also i was told it would be vary e-z to stroke it to a 400 is that possible to do that with out having it bored?

You will have to remove the motor, pull oil pan replace crank and change the push rods and cam but if your are going that far why stop for just that little bit you might as well go and pull he heads have them port and pollished add headers and new high rise intake and bigger carb the remove the oem fan and water pump buy a electric water pump and electric fans to mount on the radatior.

coil may be bad--chec distributer cap for corrosion and inspec points--also plug wires cud be worn inside--look for any loose-frayed wires in engine area--also make sure fuses and relays or switches are sound

Carburator is running to lean and some vacuum hoses aren't connected.it is not the original carb and to intake lines are capped it has 351 modified engine

What type of carb is it?

May be that you need all the vaccumm lines connected for proper operation.

How do i find out what size the engine is in a 86 ford bronco

by using the vin number

9th digit of VIN is engine code. "A"= six cyl: "B"= 5.0L carb, "C"= 5.0L FI, "D"= 351. ect, ect, ect.

Trying to find out engine size have serial number D4TE942582A

if it not a diesel the more common motor that came in these trucks was a 351windsor some came with a 351 modified but very few if you call a parts house and look for say a carburator or something of that nature they should ask you what engine size and be able to tell you from the 8th digit of the vin.

Proper placement of a 351 windser dist. in reference to the rotor button to block. witch way does it point.

it really doesnt matter where it points,as long as you plug #1 plug to where the rotor points to,with the crank at top dead center on the timing marks,just to where you know it is.But if its really important to you to have it done like the factory sets it then let me know since i own a Bronco with a 5.8
