I think your sensor may be affective. The same thing happens to my sebring and it has been like that forever. You can check the oil pressure sensor and see if it needs replaced.

After several stops and shutting down, why does it sputter and won't start?

Once stopped, fuel injector(s) may be leaking and flooding the engine. Hook up fuel pressure gauge and run engine, then watch gauge when you turn off. If pressure quickly drops, pull spark plug(s) to see if they are gas soaked.

Have you checked the oil level in the engine? Without suffient oil, the oil pressure will drop.

1999 chrysler sebring low oil pressure at idle

It may be the oil pump. If the gauge is going up when the rpms increase it's probably not the gauge or pressure switch. If the computer senses the oil pressure is low it will shut the vehicle off to try to save it's self from catastrophic failure. Also it may start cranking longer before starting. Thats it building oil pressure before the computer will let it start. Make sure oil is full, clean & thick.

For about 4 months now my 2007 sebring shuts off for no reason after driving on the highway. The oil light comes on and the car shuts off with the key still in the ignition and the car still in drive. I...

Anytime the oil light goes on, I would think that the pressure has dropped, assuming the oil sending unit is working properly.

How long ago was the engine oil changed?
I had a low oil pressure signal in a 1997 Cadillac Deville LImousine which went away after I had the engine oil changed.

Sometimes, the wrong viscosity or oil break down can cause the oil pump not to generate enough pressure for the oil pressure light to go on.

I looked at the Recalls for the 2.7L engine and couldn't find anything regarding engine oil pressure light going on mistakenly, but this doesn't mean that it's not a problem on your vehicle. There are 2 other sized engines for this vehicle.

So, what's the engine size for this Chrysler Sebring?
Does the engine smoke at all after all of this?
