Your stability control uses the ABs wheel speed Sensors and the steering collumn sensor to know "when you need more stability". It sounds as if the front wheel speed sensor is sending bad info due to:
A) corrosion under the sensor causing erratic readings
B) front wheel bearing failing causing erratic readings
C) column sensor failing causing erratic readings
The GM dealer is the only place I know to have THOSE components tested. You can change any of these sensors yourself once you know which one it is. The "service stability" indicator is on because one of the sensors is not giving correct data, and the default mode is to disable the system.
Good luck and hope this helps,

You can check out what the trouble code is by pushing and holding the information button and the up arrow (right side of instrument cluster above the radio) until all the instrument clusters light. Press the information button (last) to enter test mode. I've had an error C1234, meaning Left rear wheel sensor fault. I found the problem to be a corroded connector under the chasis just under the rear left door about 2 feet in. I had to by-pass (replace 1 wire due to corrosion at the connector.

The problem is the wheel bearings that have the ABS sensor attached. Check the computer for the code as there is also an up date for the wiring sytem with a jumper for $60 fix that possible could solve the problem.
